Public Engagement

Kent Archaeological Society offers a range of talks, workshops, and public engagement activities designed to share archaeological knowledge with a wide variety of audiences. Our team regularly contributes to conferences, professional meetings, academic events, and community gatherings, delivering informative and engaging presentations that explore archaeological research, discoveries, and heritage management. These sessions can be tailored for specialist audiences or adapted for local history societies, community groups, and public events.

Our staff are also available to participate in panel discussions, conference sessions, and professional workshops, contributing practical experience from field archaeology, heritage management, and research projects. These events provide an opportunity to discuss archaeological methods, current research themes, and the role of archaeology within planning and heritage conservation. We aim to present complex ideas clearly and accessibly while maintaining the high standards expected in academic and professional contexts.

In addition to formal presentations, we provide interactive sessions featuring archaeological artefacts and replicas, allowing participants to examine and discuss objects under the guidance of professional archaeologists. These artefact-based learning sessions (often known as object handling workshops) offer a hands-on introduction to archaeological materials and the stories they reveal about past societies. Such sessions are particularly popular at heritage events, museums, and community open days.

The KAS also develops educational activities for school-age audiences, introducing younger participants to archaeology through engaging demonstrations, interactive discussions, and practical activities. These workshops encourage curiosity about the past while highlighting how archaeologists investigate and interpret historical evidence. By combining professional expertise with accessible presentation, our outreach programmes aim to foster wider understanding and appreciation of archaeology and the historic environment.
