Collections Consultancy

Kent Archaeological Society provides professional consultancy and technical support to individuals, organisations, and institutions, involved in the care, interpretation, and presentation of archaeological collections and historic material. Our services are designed to support museums, heritage organisations, local authorities, and community groups in developing projects that responsibly manage and effectively communicate archaeological and historical resources.

We offer specialist assistance with the design and installation of exhibitions, helping to translate archaeological research and collections into engaging public displays. This can include advising on exhibition concepts, object selection, interpretative content, display layout, and the practical requirements for the safe presentation of artefacts. Our approach balances clear public interpretation with professional standards for the handling and display of archaeological material.

Kent Archaeological Society also provides curatorial and collections management advice for organisations responsible for archaeological or historical collections. This may include guidance on cataloguing, documentation, storage, and long-term management strategies. Our team can assist institutions in developing practical solutions that ensure collections are properly recorded, accessible for research, and preserved for future generations.

In addition, we offer collections care advice, supporting best practice in the handling, storage, and conservation of archaeological artefacts. This can include recommendations on environmental conditions, packing and storage systems, and procedures for the safe handling of objects during research, display, or educational activities. By providing practical and informed guidance, KAS helps organisations safeguard cultural heritage while making it accessible to researchers, communities, and the wider public.
