Photographic and photogrammetric survey

KAS Archaeological Services provides professional photographic and digital survey services to record archaeological sites, historic buildings, artefacts, and landscapes. High-quality visual documentation plays an important role in archaeological research, heritage management, and the planning process, creating accurate records that support analysis, interpretation, and long-term archive preservation.

Our services include scale photographic surveys, producing systematic and carefully controlled photographic records of structures, features, or artefacts. These surveys are undertaken using appropriate scales, controlled lighting where necessary, and consistent recording methods to ensure that the resulting images provide reliable visual documentation for reports, archives, and publication.

We also offer three-dimensional modelling through photogrammetric survey, using overlapping digital photography to create detailed and measurable 3D models of archaeological features, buildings, or objects. Photogrammetry allows complex structures and surfaces to be recorded with a high degree of accuracy and can produce orthographic images, scaled plans, and interactive models that support both analysis and presentation.

In addition, KAS Archaeological Services undertakes aerial photography and drone-based survey, providing a broader perspective on archaeological landscapes and sites. Aerial imagery can reveal cropmarks, earthworks, and site layouts that are difficult to identify from ground level, while also offering valuable documentation for monitoring and project reporting. Together, these photographic and digital recording techniques provide versatile and precise tools for capturing archaeological evidence and supporting the effective management of the historic environment.
