ARG Fieldwork Forum

On Saturday 21st March, the Archaeology Research Group hosted its annual fieldwork forum on behalf of the Kent Archaeological Society. This year’s event, held at Lenham Community Centre, was generously sponsored by Isle Heritage CIC for which the KAS are extremely grateful.

The theme of this year’s forum was to focus on the practical recording methods used on archaeological sites; from positioning your site to the British National Grid and an understanding of stratigraphy and contexts, to photographing your site and recording in 3 dimensions through photogrammetry. Attendees were given an in-depth practical session led by Keith Parfitt on how to draw an archaeological section. This particular element of the forum was very well received with all 39 attendees coming away with a well drawn section.

We will be preparing for next year’s forum by polling the KAS membership for what practical activities they would like to gain training in through the Fieldwork Forum. We’ve also had feedback that members would like to hear more from active archaeology groups and their activities within the county. This is something we will consider going forward.
