Marking a Roman Horse Scapula

Description: Our Curator Andy can be seen here marking a Roman horse scapula from our excavations at Trosley Roman Villa. Marking is a vital stage of the post-excavation process, allowing information from the excavation to be linked to individual objects. We use Paraloid B72 as a basecoat as this allows the mark to be reversable if needed, as you can see with Andy's first attempt! It's important that the mark is made using archival ink which is acid free and thus not going to damage the object it is placed on. The paraloid gives the object a surface to write over. #archaeologicaldig #history #archaeologicalexcavation #archaeologicaldiscoveries #education #archaeologicalfindings #archaeologicalsite #museum #museumcollections #curator #findsfriday
