Anne Sassin

Anne is a community archaeologist who predominantly works both in Surrey and Kent. At present she is employed as the National Landscape Archaeologist for the Kent Downs National Landscape, where she led on multi-period archaeology projects in the Darent Valley from 2018-2025, including fieldwork at Lullingstone Roman Villa, Lullingstone Castle, St Johns Jerusalem Sutton-at-Hone and Otford Palace. Currently she is working with Kent Downs to manage a heritage at risk project across the AONB and is working closely with the Darent Valley volunteers to oversee legacy projects, as well as continuing management of the Kent LiDAR Portal.

She is currently a trustee for CBA (the Council for British Archaeology) South East, for which she was a former Chair and Newsletter Editor. She is also editor for Surrey's Past, the Surrey Archaeological Society's regular magazine, and runs the SyAS outreach programme.

Having received her PhD in Archaeology at the University of Nottingham in 2012 on social identity and monumental architecture in South Wales during the early medieval to Norman transition, she is also a former sessional and temporary lecturer in medieval archaeology at Canterbury Christ Church University, Cardiff University, Nottingham and the University of Oxford Department for Continuing Education.
