St. Edmunds School in Canterbury awarded the 2025 Ian Coulson Bursary
Huge congratulations to St. Edmunds School in Canterbury who have been awarded the 2025 Ian Coulson Bursary!
This annual bursary has been established by the Kent Archaeological Society in memory of Ian Coulson. Ian was Adviser for History in Kent schools for over 25 years and a former President of the Society.
The bursary aims to develop classroom resources based on Kent’s local history and/or archaeology, two of Ian’s great passions, to support the teaching and learning of archaeology and local history in Kent and Medway schools.
The project ‘Unlocking the Past to Shape the Future: Investigating pupils’ lives at St. Edmunds School, Canterbury, from 1749-2025’ will explore past and present voices of St. Edmunds by inviting local primary and secondary schools to develop key research skills, using the extensive in-house archives of the school and surrounding heritage centres. Pupils will connect with voices from the past to gain a better understanding of how local and national history can come alive, and learn invaluable, cross-curricular research skills throughout the project.
A suite of teaching resources will be created by the project and made freely available at completion.
We will keep you updated on the success and outcomes of the project as they are achieved.
Congratulations to all involved.
