Group visits to the Elvington and Eythorne Heritage Centre
We understand that many of the local heritage groups, societies and organisations regularly meet at their own venues, but we would like to offer the opportunity to give a talk/presentation at our venue, which is situated at Elvington Community Centre. The evening, or afternoon sessions would also include with free access to our heritage centre allowing visitors time to view many of the different archives and displays, all highlighting the rich heritage of the parishes of Eythorne, Elvington and Waldershare and explaining the history and development of Tilmanstone Colliery.
A talk/presentation would be given by one of our heritage group's volunteers down in the main hall at Elvington Community Centre, which would last a duration of around one hour, or a time preferable to the group visiting. The subject of the talk would then involve a range of different subjects tailored to the different groups and organisations, and depend on their existing knowledge of the Kent Coalfield. Time would then also be made available for visitors to view the displays and exhibits that we have in our heritage room upstairs, accessed either by a staircase or the lift, which would be open for as long as required. We can provide access during the day and evenings with prior arrangement that is most suitable to each group. There is enough space for large groups of around 40/50 people, as there are plenty of chairs available.
Arrangements can also be made for refreshments to be made available as well. The hall would be hired by our heritage group, with free access to our heritage centre. We understand that many local heritage groups already pay funds, so we would only request that visitors may wish to give a donation if they wish. We would be able to accommodate groups of around 20 people. However, if there are more then we can make further arrangements.
There is free onsite car parking, wheelchair access, a lift to the heritage centre if required and also toilet facilities all available at Elvington Community Centre, St. Johns Road, Elvington, CT15 4DZ. As a heritage centre we are open to the public every Tuesday from 10am until 2pm.
