Jason Mazzocchi

I’m the editor of Archaeologia Cantiana, Kent’s annual peer-reviewed journal of archaeology and history, published since 1858. I particularly enjoy working with contributors to develop and present their research, combining editorial judgement with scholarly rigour and close attention to language and detail. I see the role as supporting new research into Kent’s past while maintaining the editorial standards and distinctive character of this long-established journal.

My interdisciplinary background spans sociology, English, media and education, underpinned by an MA in Communications, Culture and Society from Goldsmiths, University of London. I have published on sociology and the media, and my interests in discourse, language and cultural practice continue to inform my approach to editing and scholarly communication.

I am currently undertaking a PhD in History at the University of Kent, researching the oyster disputes of Faversham and the North Kent coast, c.1580–1620. Working closely with primary sources and archival material has deepened my interest in the social and cultural history of early modern Kent and strengthened my understanding of historical method and practice. As both researcher and editor, I value rigorous research, thoughtful and engaging scholarship, and making new work on Kent’s past accessible to a broad readership.
