A talk by Paul Ryan, hosted by Smarden Local History Society.

After 23 years working for London Weekend TV and GMTV Paul Ryan was recruited in 1999 by the sports production company Sunset+Vine as Technical Producer to work on their recently acquired contract to produce cricket for Channel 4.

As this was the first time that test match cricket was to be shown on commercial TV Paul's remit was to discover ways to make the game more understandable to viewers who were not regular cricket watchers.

After a year of development the Hawk-Eye system was launched in May 2001...the rest is history and there is a Smarden connection which Paul will reveal in his talk to the History Society on Thursday 20th of November from 6:45 pm onwards. Guests are, as always, very welcome.
