We'll have three things happening at the Smarden History meeting on Thursday February 19th which we think you will enjoy.
Firstly, at 7 pm we will be unveiling the Smarden Tithe Clock, presented in 1896 to farmer George Cooper of Ash Farm, newly restored and installed in the Hop Pocket and an account of the clock's famous story will sit alongside.
Next, we have our first talk of 2026 when historian Peter Batty will be telling us why and how room interiors have changed over time. The talk starts at 7:30 pm.
And lastly, we have a new exhibition of local artefacts in the Hop Pocket display case, including an inscribed tile dated 1736 with a fascinating message written on it!
So, please do come along earlier this time, as we would welcome your participation when the clock is unveiled at 7 pm. The bar will also open earlier than usual at 6:30 pm. We do hope you will join us and as always guests are warmly welcome.
