The Monumental Inscriptions in the churchyard of Stanford Church
Noted 2nd October 1891 by Leland L. Duncan

The following is as far as possible an exact transcription of Mr L.L. Duncan's field notebook for the M.I.s in the Folkestone area where he seems have stayed during September and October 1891.  His notebook written up in his shorthand, in pencil, on the site leaves something to be desired. The paper of the notebook has over time become somewhat dirty and aged but is an immensely valuable record of that date.

In this Church I did not meet with a Single Inscription; and but one Tomb Stone, which is on The Floor in the Body, and has the Appearance of Antiquity.

This Church is very small, consisting of A Chancell, Body, and a small Isle to the South. In a small wooden Steeple, at the West End, hang 2 small Bells, thus inscribed:

284. William REVELL Me Fecit.
285. John WILLNAR 1631.

286. In the Church Yard, is an Altar Tomb for John CULLEN 1712. And Headstones for CAREW, KENNET, MARSH & VILE.

287. The Church was dedicated to All Saints. And is a Chapel of Ease to Lyminge.

288. For an Account of Oastenhanger or Westenhanger, in this Parish, see HARRIS, P.294, and PHILPOT, 302.
