(1982) (white-fabric colour-coated bag-beakers) and Dr Jane Timby (Gallo-Belgic wares), have been undertaken that have coincided with the present author’s research, and the results of this work will hopefully clarify some of the issues that remain unresolved in the present account of pottery in Kent.
The appendix of fabrics (Appendix 2) has been abbreviated by restricting description to a summary of the visual and physical characteristics most appreciable in the hand specimen. The better-known wares have not been

dealt with in detail, as description is readily available in recent publications. However, some wares have a wide range of fabric details, for example Colchester and Nene Valley colour-coated wares, and Much Hadham oxidised ware. In such cases, those fabrics which the present author has deemed most diagnostic of the ware in question are described in detail. Conversely,, wares which may have been falsely attributed to a source are briefly described under the heading of that source, for example buff sandy wares under ‘Brockley Hill/Verulamium’.
