WILLIAM DE MAKEMADE, 3 October 1407. To be buried in the church yard of the parish church of Preston next Feuersham "extransverso" the going in of the south door of the church. To the high altar 10s. To the high altar of Feversham 6s. 8d. I leave to the religious of the Priory of Douorr, St. Gregory Canterbury, the Abbey of St. Radegunde, the Abbey of Langedon, The Monastery of Shepey, the Priory of Dertford, the Domus Dei Douorr, the Priory of Bilsington, the Priory of Horton, the Abbey of Begham, the Priory of Comeswell, the Carmelite Brothers of Sandwich, Eylesford and Lossynham, the Augustine Friars of Canterbury, the Nuns of Dauynton, the Domus Dei of Osprynge, the Chantry of Cobham, the House of the Holy Trinity of Modynden, the Abbey of Nuns of Mallyng, the Abbey of Lesnes, and the Priory of Tunbryg to each house 20s. To the Abbot of St. Augustine’s Canterbury and Conuent of the same place 10 marcs. To the Prior of Christ Church Canterbury and certain religious of that priory £10. 
To the Abbot and Convent of Feversham 10 marcs. To the present Prior of Rouchester 40s. and certain religious of that priory 100s. To the present Abbot of Boxle 20s. 8d. and certain religious of the abbey 40s. To the present Prioress of Hegham 20s. and certain religious there 40s. To the Prior of Ledys 20s. and certain religious 40s. To the Convent of Friars Minors Canterbury 10s., of Friars Preachers there 60s. that each convent and all aforesaid Religious may have my soul recommended in masses and prayers and that in their choirs on my month’s day if it can conveniently be done or on some fit day following according to the discretion of the precentor of the places solemn Placebo and dirige and on the morrow at the high altar mass of Requiem may be said devoutly. 
I leave to each Hospital of St. Laurence, St. Sepulchre, St. James in Wynchepe, Northgate and Harbaldon 13s. 4d. and to each hospital of the poor between Bokton and Derford 3s. 4d. 
I wish that the utensils of my house as well wood and brass as pewter and all my cloths as well for the hall and chamber as for the pantry, those for my body alone excepted, shall be divided into two equal parts of which one part I leave to Margerie my wife and the other to Thomas de Bronston my nephew and the clothing of my body between poor neighbours and my servants and to the same Thomas seed sufficient of each kind of corn for his lands which I have given him in the towns of Preston, Feversham, Cokereldane in Bocton vndre the blene, for the year next after my death, sowing reasonably; so that he be helping to the said Margerie and specially her protector in her doings. I leave to the said Thomas all my farm horses (affres) for two ploughs, two carts, with the whole belongings. 
To each one imprisoned for felony in Canterbury Castle, the Gaols of Maydenston, Rouchester, Canterbury, Sandewych, Douorr, Hyth, Romney and Feversham 12d. To each imprisoned for debt 20s. I leave to amending the King’s road between Ospryng and Bocton £10. I leave to Brother Peter Makenade 40s, to brother Thomas Makenade 40s. To the churchwardens of Preston church ten good cows to sustain yearly in that church all the wax candles burning round the Lord’s Sepulchre in the day of "Sancte Parascene" (Good Friday) until the hour of his Resurrection at Easter and the Paschal Candle and a torch burning at the time of the Levation of Christ’s Body each Sunday and double feast at the high altar for ever and the residue to the use of the ornaments and fabric of the said church. 
I leave to Ralph Termo(?) 20., to John Payne 20s., to Philip the cook 13s. 4d and to certain of my attendants (famulis meis) 3s. 4d. I forbid my executors by God Almighty and I specially aske that they make for me no pompous funeral vulgarly called ‘Enterement’ as is usual but the Vicar of Preston for the time being shall bury my body privately and with the divine office as is commonly used and have for his labour and to recommend my soul in ‘masses’ 20s., and in place of a pompous ‘enterement’ I leave £20 for five thousand masses to be celebrated for my soul and the souls of my father and mother, brethren and sisters and all faithful departed by religious men and other chaplains of good and honest conversation at the least within 40 days.
