WILLIAM POTYN, clerk. 5 June 1402. To be buried in the chancel of the Collegiate Church of South Mallyng (Sussex). To the work (opus) of the Bell Tower of the said church and to buying a new bell "Pro tenour" 100 marcs according to the disposition of John Harold, senior and Thomas Wardecopp clerk. To the making (fabricem) of a new porch to the church of Wadherst 20 marcs. £40 to be placed in a chest in the said porch in custody of the Vicar for the time being for use of indigent poor of the said parish. 
£40 to be distributed by John Harold senior and Thomas Wardecopp in bad roads in the parishes of Mallyng, Ryngmere, Wellyngham and Cleue. A vestment to the church of Estgrenstrede. To each of my sisters 40s. To Henry Potyn 20s. To mending the way from Wadherst to Scholner 100s. To Parnel my relative 10 marcs. 
I leave to the church of Ospringe 20s. I leave to the Vicar of the same church 20s. To Thomas Rolf 100s. To Thomas Calleys 26s. 8d. To Christina servant at Bauyngton 20s. Residue of all the goods which belonged to Nicholas Potyn my brother deceased not bequeathed I give to Thomas Wardcop clerk. John Harold; Thomas Wolbald my executors. Dated at Bauyngton. 
Proved 15 June 1402 by Thos. Wolbald executor. He is styled "Sir William Potyn, precentor of our Collegiate Church of South Mallyng".(192a Arundel I).
