James BLAKE - Will 10 March 1553

This is the Last wyll & testament of me James Blake of Newenden in Kent, 10th Marche 7 Edward VI. My bodye to be buried in the church yarde of Newenden. At my buryall amongs the poorepeople of Newenden 20s and a seame of wheate. At my monethes mynde 20s.
To Elis Blake my doughter £40, one litle cheste wch was her mothers wt all the kerchers railes & lynnen in the saide cheste & her mothers best hooks and a tach of silver. The £40 to be delivered at her mariage. If she die before mariage or 30 yeres of age then the £40 to John and James Blake my sonnes. To George Blake my cosyn one thre yeringe heyfer wt a calfe and a twelvemountinge heifer budd. To John Willerd my servaunt a two yeringe heifer wt a calfe. To Thomas Brincker and -------- Humfrey my servaunts a cote of myne & Humfrey my best white hoose. To James Bate my servaunt a two yering heifer. To John Springett my servaunt two peces of lande with a crofte and a forelande lyinge to the chauncell nexte Newynden being parcell of my ferme of Harenden for four yeres paying yerelie to my executors 40s. To Elizabeth Witt my servaunt a cowe with a calfe, my best gowne & my wiffes best kirtle. To Anne my servaunte three yardes of my Russet and two yards and a quarter of white blankett. To Joan Burgis 2 yardes of Russett for to make her a peticote. To Johan Manne my servant a cowe and a peticote cloth of Russet and a worsted kirtle that was my wives.
To John Fowle my brohter all my ferme of Lostenham all the terme of my life therein and all my stock the whiche he shall requyre to the value of £40. To Thomas Donke all my ferme of Herenden unto the ende of seven yeres payinge therefor to the use of John Blacke and James Blacke my sonnes £20. And after the seven yeres the said lease & ferme of Harenden as well as other landes nowe beyng in the handes of John Foule & Thos Donke, Nicholas Baylie & Thos Courte as all the residue unto John Blake my sonne. If he die then to James my sonne & if he die to Alice my doughter.
To John Blake & James Blake my sonnes all my brasse & pewter, coupbordes, chestes, two of my best featherbeddes & all my lynnen equallie at theire ages of 18 yeres. Residue to John and James my sonnes. Howbeit my will is that Thomas Donke shall sell them all to the best prise he canne & the monye he shall bestowe & bye landes & tenements to the use of the saide John & James Blake. The saide Thos Donke to be my sole executor and John Twisden, Thos Petter & John Foule my overseers.
Last will: concerning my landes etc in Kente. I will John Twisden & Thomas Petter shall take all my proffittes & issues, the woodes and underwodes onlie excepted, until John my sone come to 18 yeres & that they shall sufficientlie kepe them & putt them to scole & also bringe & kepe upp Alice my daughter. And at the said age then all the landes etc to John & James Blake my sonnes. Whereas I have a rent of £3.6.8 oute of the landes of John Twisden to be redemed at £60, Thomas Donk to receive the same for the said John & James. To Barthilmewe Brooke £75 for the landes I late bought of hym. Witness: John Sharpe, John Fowle, John Hope John Twisden.
