John Robert of
Hawkherst, 16 Aug. 1499. I recommend my sowle to god to oure blessid
lady & to all the sayntis of heven my bodie to be buried in the
myddell pace bifore the high crosse there within the parishe church
there. To the high aulter for my tithes paste & forgoten 20s. To the
herse light there 20d. To the convent of the howse of Motynden to praie
for my sowle 6s 8d. To the convent and house of Lossenham 3s 4d. To the
prior of Comeweld 6s 8d.
To Alice Ruke my servaunte 40s & to john Burgs late my servaunt 20s.
To the parisshe church of Hawkeherst a torche of the weight of 30lb
(same to Cranebroke, Goodherst & Stableherst). I will there be song
in the parisshe churche of Hawkherste placebo & dirige with masse
for my sowle every daie frome my owteberyng unto my monethis daie. I
bequethe to an able preste to synge in the churche of Hawkherst by an
hoole yer immediately after my deceasce to praie for my sowle, the
sowlis of my parents, my good frendis & all christian sowles 10
marke, and will that Sir Nicholas Norpise have the saide yeris servyse
bifore any oder if he will syng it.
My moveable goodes to be departid in 3 parties wherof the furste parte
to the performacion of this my testament & laste will, the seconde
parte to Alice my wife & the thirde parte to George and Edmonde my
sonnes. I make George Robert & Edmonde Robert my sonnes my executors
and Thomas Robert my brother & Thomas Robert his son overseers.
This is the laste will of me John Robert of Hawkeherste made the 16 daie
of Auguste in the yer of the Regne of Kynge Henry the VIIth the 14th.
I will & ordeyn that my feoffes suffer Alis my wife to have &
occupye my pryncipall place at Haukherste More, forthwith two pecis of
lande wherof oon is called Heis with a gardeyne to the same ennext &
the other is callid Speltfeld. My feoffes to delyver unto George my
sonne in fee symple my place callid Lellesdennes liyng annext to
Hawkeherst More with a gardeyn thereto and six pecis of land wherof two
be called the Marlegis ye 3rd Stondenscrofte, the fourthe
Horseham, the fiffte and the 6th Bisslefeldis, forthwt a wode
lying to the said two feldis Bissle feldis. Also the said George to have
Meedland or ellis the money that cometh therof paying to Alice his moder
duryng all the terme of her life 26s 8d quarterly to be paid. Also all
the land which I holde by copy of thabbot of Batell duryng my yeris.
My feoffes to delyver unto Edmond my sonne in fee symple all my land
that I late bought of John Guldeforde Knyght, Henry Archer squyer &
Thomas Baker, forthwith the Bersdemede and the garden lying therto with
a lawfull weye to carry & recarry, dryne and redryne to the
Berselemede & garden thorowe the Birselewode which is a fore
assigned to George my sonne. Also the said Edmond to have my oder
owtelandes unnamed he paying yerely to Alice his moder 36s 8d quarterly
to be paid. After the decease of ye saide Alice my wife I will the saide
Edmonde my sonne have my pryncipalle place at Hawkeherste More,
forthwith the forenamed two pecis of land & gardeyne callid Haies
and Speltfeld in fee symple.
Everich of my feoffes to have for their labour trewly performyng this my
laste will 6s 8d. If my saide sonnes George & Edmonde stryve in
executyng & performyng of this my testament & laste wille thanne
I will & advyse that Thomas Robert my brother & Thomas his sonne
to whome I geve my full truste & power and to everich of theym to
ruele & order theym aswell in the shistyng of my moveable goodes as
in thexecutyng of this my testamente & laste will as nygh as I wold
do my selfe.
