William Portland,
clerk, perpetual Vicar of Led in Kent. 14 Sept 1501. My soul to God
Allmighty & All Saints in whose honour the church of Led is
dedicated. My body to be buried if I happen to die in this town of
Battle, in the conventual church there before the chapell of Saints
Peter & Paul. I leave 20s to the churchwardens of the parish church
of Led about the adornement of the principal Images "in foro"
of the said church. To the high altar of All Souls College in Oxford 13s
4d for the adornment (confeccionem) thereof.
I leave to Robert, my brother, my gown & 10s. To Elizabeth my sister
my black gown & 10s. To Margaret my sister my gown of "musterdenyles"
& 10s. To Sir Thomas Grey 6s 8d. To Clement my "famulus"
5s. To James & John my "famuli" 3s. Executors Sir Thomas
Grey, Thomas Bunting, & Robert Cokeram. Witnesses Sir Laurence
Champion, Sir Robert Manloode & Sir Jo. Goodwyn [Latin].
