JOHN PYCKYNDEN, of
Stapleherst, clothier, 24 April 3 & 4 Philip and Mary. To be buryed
in the churche or churcheyard of Stapleherst. At my out burying in
deedes of charitie £4. To fortie poore housholders wt in Stapleherst at
my mounethis day 40s. and at the half yeres and next after my decease
and at my yeres mynde. Also to poore people of Gowdherst 40s., and
Merden 20s., and Fritenden 20s.
To Alexaunder Totye of Gowdeherst and Elizabeth his wife yerelie during
the life of the longest liver 20s., quarterly by even porcions and so
long as my executors shall take the profites of landes ---------
Garlande nowe dwellith in.
To bells, seruaunte to my lorde Wardeyn £20. To Joane doughti my
susteres daughter £20. To Julian Cockill and Elizabeth Cockell my
kynneswomen to either £20 at their mariages. To Symon Pekynden £10. To
Alice Pekinden his suster 40s. To John Godfrey of Gillingham £20. To
the wif of ---------- Benett of Rye my kynneswoman 10 mrks. To euerye
one of the children of Stevyn Buckhurst 20s., and the children of the
wife of the said Steven Buckhurst that she had by Roger Aleyn her other
husband 20s. To John Pykynden the ripyar 10 mrks. To Margarete Elsicke
my wifes daughter £10. To John Cockill my susters sonne £100 when 22,
and if he die than to every one off the susters of the said John Cockill
£20 parcel of the said £100 and the other £40 residue to my doughter
Austen, so that Thomas Austen her husbande putt in good suerties for the
£40 to goo to thuse of my said daughter and all the hangings in my
parlor, my greate spitte, my cubbourd and my furnace, my table in the
hall, my table in my parlor and my trestilles and fourmes.
To the saide Joane Austen my doughter my best bed in the chambr over the
parlor next the streete, the curtaynes, hanginges &e, one dosenne of
my best pewter and my greatest chafer and £100 in money.
To Katherine my wife £40, 5 seames of wheat 5 of barlye malt, 3 keene,
all my hogges and putrye and tenne loades of woodd to be felled, made
and carryed by my executors yerelie during my wifes lief to the messuage
that I now dwell in and Residiue of my household stuffe not bequeathed.
To Robert White off Loose £4. To Geoffry Bonnyt £5. To Thomas Arnolde
my seruaunt 20s. To John Fostall my seruaunt 40s. To Nicolas Newburye
£4.
I make Thomas Tayler of Leeds and Stevyn Forde executours and Thomas
Franckeleyn and John Franckleyn ouerseers.
Last will: of my lands &e in Stapleherst and Lamberherst. To
Katherine my wife for her life my house and gardeyne wt appurts that I
now dwell in and five peaces of lande which I bought of Maister Kempe
and of William Elton. Also yerlie terme of her life £16 out of all my
other landes.
After my detts &e paid I give my messuages landes and tenements in
Stapleherst that John Kinge now dwellith in and occupieth and my
woodland called Sharneden Wood, my wood called Snodwoode lying in
Stapleherst to James Buckerst my wifes sons and his heires. He to pay
eight score pounds, four score wt in two yeres of my decese and other 80
poundes wt in one yere next after the decease of my doughter in law Anne
Perry, to be paid to the children of Joane Austen my doughter.
All my lands &e in Lamberherste to Stephyn Forde my kynnesman and
his heirs, he paying to John Aford my godsonne £20.
All my lands in Stapleherst whiche one Medeherst now occupieth and my
lands wt appurts. comonly called Tommysfeelds and two peaces of land in
Stapleherst called Merlinges lying at Snodwood and one pece of lande
lyinge in Stapleherst called the Hobbes, to Thomas Austen my doughters
sonne.
After the deathe of Katherine my wife, fyve peces of my lande lying at
Asheherste corner and two peces of Woodlande I bought of Richard
Partriche and all my lands and tenements in Stapleherst I bought of
theirs of Allen, two peaces of lande in Stapleherst I bought of theires
of Stevyn Partriche to John Cokyn my kynesman.
All my lands in Stapleherst I bought of William Allen and one parcell of
lande called Sharpes and certayne other landes called the Brookes to the
saide Jon Cokill.
All my lands I bought of Richard Norton and lands I bought of Walter
Tailor to Christofer Austen my doughters sonne.
To Stephen Buckerst and to his heires all mesuages, lands &e in
Stapleherst which the seid Steven Buckherst now dwellith in and
occupieth of my graunt and lease.
The yerelie issues of lands which one Borden now dwellith in, in
Stapleherst, to poor people and fowle waies for seaven yeares, to be
distributed by the churchwardens and for lacke of performaunce John
Cockill to entre.
I will the messuage that William Symon now dwellith in to John Hopper
and his heires, he to pay to his suster --------- Hopper now dwelling wt
John Kinge £3 at the age of 20.
To John Austen my daughters sonne and his heires my messuage and landes
lying at Putlands Corner late bought of Thomas Stranton and my landes
called the Brooke bought of Maister Moore and my landes lying at
Fouleshotte I bought of Thomas Chapman gentilman and my pece of lande
called The harpe, and if the saide John Austen or his heires happen to
be evicted of anny parte of the landes bought of Maister Chapman Thenne
I will the same John to have one pece of land lying at Seynden late
bought of the saide Thomas Scranton.

parsonne of Stapleherst, John Forstall, Katherine Pekynden and Katherine
Smyth.
Proved 21 January 1557 by Thomas Franckleyn, John Frankleyn gent, Mr.
Thomas Hendon, rector of Stapleherst, John Forstall, Katherine Pykenden
and Katherine Smythe and administration granted to Thomas Tailor and
Stephen Ford. (P.C.C. 2 Noodes. On 5 May 1564 Sentence for the validity
of this will P.C.C. 17 Stevenson)
