JOHN OVENDEN of the parrishe of Tysherst 4 November 1559. To be buried in the churche yarde of Tysherst. To my brother Richard Ovenden my beste cote &e. Brother Nycholas Ovenden my marble cote&e. To Thomas Marcer yf he serve on to hys prentyshippe 10s. To Edwarde Thomas my seruaunte 3s. 4d. To Stevyn Sharpe my prentyce 3s. 4d. Thomas Seere my prentyce 3s. 4d. Thomas Fylden my seruaunte 20d.
To John my sonne my redde pyed heffre yt I bought of Tryplad. My sonne Wylliam my blackepyed heffre I boughte of Wenam. My sonne Harrye my browne heffre butt of a yeres age and ye vayle.
I will Julyan my wiffe kepe the three heyfres vntill the have calves and then to put theym oute for the best profitte she can for my sayed children untill they come to the age of 20 yeres. To John my soone the fyne byrseninge sheete, a brasse potte wt a pece on the bryme, a stopyn of brasse and my greatest spytte.
Residue to Julyane my wiffe and executrice she to bring a sufficient suertie to Thomas May and George Coorthop for performance of my will. To John Morbred £60 and to Nycholas Morebred £20.
Last will of my landes and tenements bothe free and copye in Sussex and Kente. To Julyan my wiffe all my freeholde in Tysherste vntil Harrye my sonne come to 24 yeres and my land at Smarden vntill William my sonne come to 24. When Harrye comes to 24 then land in Tysherste to him and for fawte of heyres to John and William my sonnes and for faute to my brothers Rychard and Nycholas. And when William my sonne is 24 then landes in Smarden to hym and for lacke of heires to John and Harrye my sonnes and for lacke to Rycharde and Nycholas my brothers.
