RICHARD WODEWARDE. 21 February 1516. (8 Henry VIII). To be buried in the parishe churche of Essheford [Ashford] besids Elizabeth my first wyfe there on hir lefte hande. To the light of Ihu 3s. 4d. Our layd of Pitye 3s. 4d. Saint Anne 3s. 4d. Saint Kateryn and Saint Mighell 3s. 4d. Saint Clement 20d. Saint George 20s. I bequeth 24 vuces of siluer, a chalys to be made thereof and myn executor to do it make halowed and bryng it home and deliver it as my gyfte at my coste and charge to the wardeynes of the said church wt the signe of Ihu on the foote, to be vsed at Ihus awter or in the saem chapell for euer, with the name of Edward graved on the said foote of it.
I bequeth a vestment to the same masse of Ihu, price £5. An honest prest to synge for my fader, my moder, my soule, my wyfs soules and all xpen soules in the chapell of Ihu for two yeres.
Residue at disposicion of Edward Wodewarde my sonne and executor. I will Maister John Halys be my ouerseer and have £3. 6. 8.
Last will: vpon a feoffement made by me to Maister John Halys, William Twesynden, Robert Halle and Richard Hall my feoffes in my lands in parishes of Essheforde, Wyllysbrough, Kennington, Trowley, Westwell, Osprynge, Bylsyngton, Newchurch, Rokyng and in the Ile of Harty. My feoffes to suffer Alice my wife to take the yerely profits of my mesuages both free holde and copyholde with my tenement at the Bryge of Assheford. I will she have the beddyng in the grete chamber next the porche and the bed in the same porche, the whiche we have layde in for her life and to remain to Edward my sonne.
Residue of my lands to Edward my sonne vnto the tyme that Richard Wodewarde the sonne of William Wodewarde brother to the said Edward some to 21 and then the said Richard shalhave all my lands in Bylsyngton, Newchurch and Rokyng wt the Sarsonhede in Assheford and the medowe therto belonging. If the said Richard dye then to Johane his suster after the decease of Alice her moder. If both die then to Edward Wodewarde and Margaret his wyfe after the decesse of Alice late the wyfe of my sonne William Wodeward.
The landes to be in the handes of Edward Wodeward my sonne, paying to Alice Wodeward his brothers wyfe 10 marcs by yere.
After the decesse of said Alice I will all my saide londes to the heire of my sonne William Wodeward and remayne to the said Edward and his heires and if none heire of my said sonne William then be lyvyng.
I will that Edward my sonne shalhave to hym and to Margaret his wyfe all my landes in Assheforde and in Wyllysborough, Jenyngton, Trowley, Westwell, Osprynge and my marshe lying in the parish of Saint Thomas in the Ile of Hartye vnto such tyme as Richard sonne of Richard Wodewarde cometh to 21 yeres.
If there be any doute in this my last will I will that Maister John Halys by his wysdom doo refourme it in the which I hartely beseche him.
