INNOCENT AUSTEN, 14th
October in the yere after the vse, computacion and indiccon of the
Churche of Rome 1524. To be buried in the parish church of Guysnes nygh
vnto Wise (sic). To high altar of Ashford church 3s. 4d. To my mother
Anne Bettnam my wifs best gown. To my suster Anne Horsmandere. To my
brother Robert Austen and to his wife. My cosyn Margery Austen and hir
suster Elizabeth Austen. To Elizabeth Austen doughter to my brother
Robert. To the coustable of the Kepe Richard Tewe and his wife. To
Mynker the wife of Gilmen Bocher. To my goostely father Sir James
Roberts senior. To Maister John Gage Esquire the best golde ryng he can
chewse of my sixe ryngs and to his wife my maistres the next best. To
John Coke and John Kyng and Water James. To Richard Humfry gentilman my
crosbowe. To John Wright my frise cote with the placard.
Executors: Robert Goodwyn and Rauf Goodwyn of Ipswich and John Bettnam
of Plucley gentilman supervisor.
My londes bounde in statute to James Wilforde. My feoffees of trust Sr.
John Fogge Knight, John Bettnam and Edmunde Wilford gentilmen, Lewes
Mugge and Frauncis Parcyvall yomen. All my londes in Kent in Charing,
Peonigton, Asheford, Bonyngton and Charlott [?Challock] to my executors,
except my part of Bybroke in the parish of Asheford, which I will the
churchwardeyns of Asheford for the yere being shall foreuermore Receyve
the rents and yerely the 12th day of May cause a solemyn
dirige and masse for my soule, my father and mother and my two wifs
soules, Margaret and Elizabeth, my brethren and sustern.
My brother Robert my houses &e. I holde by Copye. My executors to
content Richard Davy and for the contentacion of him to sell my londes
in Charyng and Peoyngton to pay further my detts for it is not my dett
but the dett of George Hampton. For such dett as I owe onto my father
Robert Goodwyn I will he shall take up his dewtie of my goodes and
londes wt conscience. Residue to my brother Robert Austen.
My executors to take account of George Hampton and of my father Bettnam
and John Leucrok for the rents of my londes.
Witness: my goostely father Sr. James Roberts, John Wyndbank, John
Corson fremen of the Countie of Guysnes, Richard Tewe Constable of the
Kepe, John Cooke, Walter James and John Kyng sowdyars of the Retynewe of
the Castell and Richard Humfray gentilman.
Codicell: I geve William Colson my skarlet bonet. To John Cook. My
servant John Smith. I forgeve John Hart all he owith me for mete and
drynke. My godson George Wynstanley. To Robert Adam, James Morse, Philip
and Michael Master Gages servants. To Paynters wife and John Kyng. To
Maister Isley my swerde that I bought in Flaunders. To Maister Richard
Humfree oon of my shewting bowes. To Julian Wright. I charge my
executors to offer for me at the Rode of Dover Courte the half grote
that is bowyd thither, another to or lady of Ipswich, and cause four
pilgremages namely to our Lady of Wyllesdon, our Lady of Crome, our Lady
of Barking and our Lady of Ipswiche.
For the prisoner that is escapid of William Warbertons I forgeve him the
17s. he ourith me.
