JOHN NOX, of Maidestone
[Maidstone], clothmaker, 17 December 1517. To be buried wtin the
churchyarde of Alhalowes in Maidestone beside the Palme Crosse. To the
maguteynyng of Saint Clements light wtin the same church 12d. To the
Freres of Aylesford 13s. 4d. To the monks of Boxley 6s. 8d. To the
reparacions of Saint Dunstanys church in Cranebroke 10s.
To Nicholas Rescheford of London, hosyer, my blak gowne unlyned. To the
reparacion and amendyng of the litell brigge next to my newe house
called Forde Brygge in Maydestone 6s. 8d. To the broderhede of Corpus
Xpi in Maydestone 3s. 4d.
I will that my body shalbe sett vnto the chirch at the day of my
burially wt the hole quere of preests, clerks and children and they to
have for their labour as hath been custumably used to be gevyn.
To Benet my doughter when she come to lawfull age and be maried 20 mrc.
To that childe that nowe Johane my wyfe gvith wt and fortune it to lyve
to lawfull age beying a man child £20 and if a woman childe 20 mrc to
hir mariage.
To Johane my wife £20 and all my moveable goods and detts and I make my
said wife my soole executrice and John Atcok the abbot of Boxley
ouerseer with Richard Helye of Maydestone and to
either of theym 10s.
Last will: My feoffees to suffre Johane my wif to have all my londes
&e duringe her lyfe she to make vp and fyngsshe the newe werke of
the house that I have begon and all the other howsings to the same
annexed and to remain to the said child if a man child and if it dye
wtout issue then to Bent my doughter and if a woman child then betwene
them. If all die to be solde and one half to ye church of Alhalowes and
the ornaments of the same and that other to Thabbot and Covent of the
abbey of Boxley called the Roode of Grace to be parte taker of their
charitable prayers.
