WILLIAM SWYNHAM of Maideston [Maidstone], 23 March 1492. To be buried in the churchyard of the Collegiate Church of All Saints. To the light of St. Thomas there 4d. To the high altar of the Fraternity of Ihu there 4d. To the light of the blessed Virgin Mary existing in the chauncel 4d. To the light of the Holy Trinity 4d., of St. Cristofe 2d., of St. George 2d., of St. James the Apostle 4d.
To John my son one great brass pot, too candlesticks of Laton &e. Residue to Margaret my wife and the foresaid John my son and Henry Smyth to be executors and Master William Ensynge ‘gentilman’supervisor.
Witnesses: Dom. Thomas Nicoll parish chaplain there, John Frire, Thomas Newele.
Last will: concerning one messuage, garden, wharf, and croft in the parish of Maideston [Maidstone] in which Master John Lee, clerk, esquire (sic) and William Reve are enfeoffed. They to make a state to John Swynham my son, he to pay to Cristine Errell to her marriage £5 at the assignment of James Digon feoffee and executor of Robert Criell father of the said Cristine as in his last will is directed. My son John also shall permit Margaret my wife to have ‘unam altam carueram et vnam spensam’ being in the north end of my messuage aforesaid. (Latin)
