4 Feb. 1634. Elenor Knatchbull of the parrish of
Maidstone. To be buried in the church of Maidstone beside the body of my most
entirely beloved husband Thomas Knatchbull for I am sure that my redeemer
liveth and that I shall see God in my fleshe. Unto the poore of the parrishe
of Maidstone 20 nobles.
To my welbeloved sonne Thomas Knatchbull £100 alsoe all my
bookes.
To my welbeloved daughter Alice Knatchbull £150 and all my
wearinge lynnen and apparell. To my deere loved daughter Dorathy Knatchbull as
a remembrance of my deere affeccon to her my twoe silver cupp dishes.
Unto my foresaid sonne Thomas Knatchbull all the right and
interest which I have in the lease of Padsoll Mills the fee simple whereof his
carefull loving Father hath given him by will after my decease.
Unto Joane Osborne my servant £5. Also will that the lands which
I purchased of Mr Hall shalbe sould to pay these debts and legacies and alsoe
those debts and legacies which are mentioned in my deceased most entirely
beloved husbands will which have not yet bene performed by me which is to say
£250 to be paied to my daughtre Alice which I will be paid unto her within
six monethes after my decease and also £300 which were due to my deceased
deere sonne George Knatchbull which is to be devided by equall porcons betwene
his twoe brothers Norton and Thomas and his sister Alice.
All the rest of my goodes and Chattells etc. I give unto my most
deere loved sonne Norton Knatchbull whoe I make and ordaine my sole executor
desiringe him that his good Fathers will and myne may be truly performed with
all love and kindnes to his brother and sister with especiall care for their
future happiness as much as in him lyeth to which end I entreate him as I have
anie interest in his love that he wilbe directed and directed by my deere
brother Sir Norton Knatchbull whoe I make the Supervisor of this my last will
and testament hartely beseeching him soe to bee and that he will continewe as
ever he hath beene a lovinge and carefull Parent to my children and I desire
and charge all of them that they beare themselves in true harted love and
obedience toward him submitting themselves to his most grave and religious
directions and to be ordered by him in all matters of Controversies if any
question shall arise touchinge the setling of the same and every of their
estates. Eleanor Knatchbull in the presence of James Jackson, Thomas Pereman.
Mrs Knatchbulls last expression of her selfe before her death
Sept 16 1638.
That Mrs Alice Knatchbull should have her chest of
lynnen. That Mrs Alice should have the best of her wearinge
apparell and Joane her maide the worst. That Joane her maide should have £10
in mony. That Mistres Alice should have her shugar box and a guilte boll and a
peece of plate of hers that was putt away another to be bought for her for it.
That whereas shee had given Mr Thomas Knatchbull her sonne in her
will twoe hundreth poundes her meaninge was nowe that he should have but one
in regard she had paied one hundreth poundes for him lately already. John
