11 Jan 1536. Edward Browne citezen and marchante Tailor of London. To be buried within the body of the parisshe churche of Alhalowen in Bredestrete yf I deceesse within the Citie of London.
   Goods into thre equall parts. (1) Margret my wyf. (2). to Henry, Richarde, Anne and Elizabeth my children equallie at their full ages of 21 or be maried. (3) I reserve to my self and myn extours.
   A Preeste to sing in the said churche of Alhalowen for my soule etc. one hole yere. To the bretherhed of our lady in the said churche 20s. To the saide preeste for his salarie 10 marks or £7 at discrecion of myn extours. I will myn extours within thre monnethes after my decesse shall delyver xijli sterlings to the vicar and churche wardens of the parisshe of Ayleforde in Kent where my father and mother lye buried to theintent that the vicar and churche wardens for the tyme being shall yerely duringe xxti yeres kepe an obbite or anniversary in the said churche for the soules of my said father and mother and for my soule etc. and shall expende at every suche obitte 7s.6d.
   And that £4.10 parcell (sic) of the said £12 I will shall be distributed and disposed amongest the pouere people of the said perish every yere duringe the said xx yeres after the discrecion of the said vicar and churche wardens and I will myn extours shall upon the delyverie and payement of the said £12 take a sufficient bonde of the saide vicar and churche wardens for the sure keping of the said yerely obett and also for the sure distribution of the said £12 after my minde above declared and in case the saide vicar and churche wardens shalbe remysse and neclygent and do not kepe the said yerely obett or do not distribute the said xijli as is aforesaid or refuse to be bounde so to doo Than as now and nowe as then (sic) I will that the prior and covent of the White Freers in Ailesford shall have the keping of the said yerelye obett in there conventuall church and shall have the said xijli or as moche of the same as shall happen to be left unspent thrughte ye necligente and defaute of the said vicar and churche wardens of Ailesford. On daie of my buryall in penny dole amongest pouer pepoll within the Citie of London £4.
   To John Hikkes now myn apprentice £20. To John Browne my base son £20 to hym for his fynding and keping by the discretions of myn extours till he shall come to 21. And if he decesse so moch as shalbe unspent to my cosyn John Hikkens (sic) and William his brother.
   To the prior and Covent of the White Fryers in Ailesford towards the making of there Cloyster and to theintent that they shall saye fyve trintalls within the space of one yere £5.
   To poure presoners in Newgate in brede weklye during xij monnethes 2/6 every weke sum £6.10. [and other prisons similarly].
   To Robert Boggas of Suffolke , clothier one gowne of black. To Robert Gerthe of Suffolke, clothier one gowne of pewke price 26/8. To Maister Henry Hubilthorne, Alderman and to his wiff eache a blacke gown. To Henry Sucleye a blake gowne. To Robert Kypping gentilman for his good benevolence shewed to me and to John Browne oon blacke gowne price 26/8.
   To every of my servunts one blacke gowne apece. To every of the servunts of Mr doctor Mabilstone one blacke gowne apece. To John Wilford , screvyner on blacke gowne price 20s. Residue betwene Margret my wiff and my 4 childern.
   Exors. Margaret my wiff, Maister John Mabilstone, clerke, doctor of lawe and Henry Sucleye overseer and Thos White, marchant Taylors and to each of them and their wiffs a blacke gown.
   Last will or codicell to my will dated 11 Jan. 1536. this: 13 Jan 1536 of all my lands as well freehold as coppihold, whiche I lately purchesyd and bought of Thos Wyatte Esquire in the lordship of Stepnethe in Middx, I will the said lands shalbe sould to the most advantage and profett and the monney comying towards the payment of my detts and legacis. My will is yf my unkell Henry Sucley, citezen and marchant taylor of London shal be in mind to by the said lands shall have the preferment and shalby the same better chepe then anye other man by ten pounds.
   To Thos Rydley, marchant tailor £10. To Maister Hubilthorne, Alderman and his wiffe oon golde ringe apece price 26/8. To Maister Warner and his wiff oon blacke gowne apece. To Franncis Galiard, gentilman oon blacke gowne.
   Probate 21 Feb 1536 by Margaret, relict, Regd. power to John Mableston, cum venerit.
