11. Ayloffe

24 Septr 1518. Robert Myllys of the Towne of West Malling, seke in body, etc. To be buried yf I decesse here in such place as my lord Abbot of Saint Austens will assigne. And yf I dye at home I will my body be buried in the Rode Chaunsell in the churche of West Malling where the awter nowe standeth, to have the same awter broken and a neive to be made in a place more convenient within the same chauncell at myn owne propre charge and cost. To the high awter of the same churche for my tithes or offeryngs forgoten Xs. To the brethered of our lady within the same church £3.6.8. I will that if Maister vicar or any other parisher will take upon them to make the Rode chauncell as I in tyme past have moved them that then my extours paye unto them towarde the making of the same £10 orells yf the vicar or parishens or any of them geve myn extours Xli I will that myn extours perfourme the same Chapell after the best maner as in tyme past I have moved them. At my burying moneth mynde and anniversary a solempne dirige by note and a Trentall of masses yf so many preests may be gotyn or had. I will contynually XXX daies after my decesse every day have a dirige by note with my seculer preests and ij clerks at home orells here.
   If I dye here geving them for their labour as myn extours can agree with them with a herse and 4 Tapers contynually brennyng all the service tyme within the said moneth. I will and desire my lord Abbot of Saint Austens after my decesse to syng dirige for my sowle with his brethern and masse and I geve unto him for his labour 3/4, to every brother in the house that bereth office 12d and to every other that berith noon office 8d.
   To every of my godchern 12d.
   To every of my susters sonnes that is for to say William Lilly, Richd Lylly and John Lylly to every of them £3.6.8. To Nichas Goodhewe £3.6.8. To every of my doughters Elizabeth and Johane so that they mary according to the will and mynde of my wyfe and myn extours whan they come to the age of 21 yeres £10. If any decesse then the £40 betwene my ij sonnes. If all decesse then the other £40 to Margaret my wife. To Johane Mekot £10. Sir Henry Holywode my soule preest the howse and gardyn whiche he dwelleth in for terme of his lyfe.
    To the frere observunces of Caunterbury £5. Item: I will that myn extours perfourme or cause to be performed the boke that I have begon in the Frere observunce.
   To Johane Honyswete my servunt to hir mariage 40s. To John Dan my servunt 20s. To Thomas Claygate my servunt 20s. To Thos Tylman £3.6.8.
   To the Abbes and Covent of Malling £6.13.4. Item: I will that after my decesse my feoffees deliver astate of all my mershlond and mershe in Chyslett to the Abbot of Saint Austens without Canterbury to be had to him and to his successours to the use of the said monastery fro the day of my decesse unto thende and terme of LXXXXIX yeres the remaynder therof to suche persones as the said Abbot shal name and to their heres for ever to thuses and entents followinge, that is to sey that the said Abbot and his successours shal paye yerely to Sir Henry my preest duryng his lyfe to pray for my soule xj marc and after the decesse of the same Sir Henry cause one of the monks of the said monastery to synge wekely amonge them by suche course as the same Abbot shal assigne in the same monastery for ever for my soule and all Xten soules and to paye to the said monke every weke ijs. Also in the yere nere aboute the day of my decesse cause a solempne dirige and masse of requem for my soule
    in the said monastery for ever to be songen observed and kept. Provided that yf the said Abbot or his successours at any tyme after my decesse and before thende of the said 99 yeres doo laufully a mortyse the said mershlond and mershe then I will the said Abbot have the said mershlond and mershe to him and his successours for ever and observe and paye the said ijs every weke and kepe the dirige and masse as is aforsaid.
   I will Margaret my wyfe perceyve and have all my londes and tenements etc. in the parishes of West Mallinge, East Mallinge, Reyherse, Leyborne or Dytton till my sonnes Robert and Walter come to the age of xxj yeres, and after that my son Robert Mylles cometh to xxj I will my feoffees deliver him astate of all my londes and tenements in West Mallinge, Reyherse and Layborn except my house whiche John Reve dwelleth in, my malthous, myn orchard, my safferon gardeyn and the crofte which I geve and bequeth to Margaret my wyfe for terme of hir lyfe, and also that Robert paye unto my said wyfe £5 annuytie and after the decesse of the said Margaret I will my forsaid howse etc. remayn to Robert my sonne.
    When my sonne Walter cometh to thage of xxj yeres my feoffees deliver him astate of all my londes in East Mallinge, Ditton or ells where within the Shire of Kent, he to paye to Margret my wyfe yerely £6.13.4. If both decesse without heires, which God forbed, my said wife being alyve then my said wife have all my said londes for terme of hir lyfe and after be solde and a seculer preest to singe for my soule and all thsoe soules whom Sir Henry my preest hath in his bedroll in the churche of West Mallinge XX yeres and in the churche of Est Mallinge V yeres, havinge for his salary yerely xj marc. Provided alwey that the house and gardyn which Sir Henry my preest dwelleth in be not solde but that the same preest which shall syng for my soule have it to him freely to dwell in for the said terme of XXV yeres and after to remayn to our lady brethered within West Mallinge churche for ever. And of the rest of the money I bequeth to the Abbey of Mallinge XX marc. Residue in meritorious dedes for my soule helth.
    Residue of all my goodes to Margaret my wyfe whom I make executrice and for her coexecutours I make Maister Doctor Atclyff, parson of Saint Maryhill in London, Maister Walter Myles and Wm Skyndar.
   Wit. Sir John Clerk, vicar of Saint Paulys [?Canterbury], Wm Hammond and other.
