11 Marche 7 H8. Thomas Roberd of the parisshe of
Brenchesle in Kent. To be buried within the chirche of Brenchesle before Seynt
Jamys aucter. To the herse lyght and the berne light 20lb of wex. I will my
exours shall kepe dirige and masse of Jhu with iij prests every Fryday the
space of fyve Fridays next ensuyng my decease every prest to have 4d,
the clerk 4d and the children 6d. The masses to be seyd
on Seynt Jamys aucter. To every prest being at myn owt beryng monethis day and
yeres mynde 8d and every clerke 4d and to every child
that can syng his pleyn song ijd.
To every poor man and woman that will take dole ijd
and to every child 1d. I ordeyn therebe kept an obite for my soule
befor the seid aucter of Seynt Jamys X yeris after my yeris mynde and bestowed
6/8. The next yere after my disceasse in Lent season ther be bake and brede, a
quarter of white and half a barell of white hering to be gyven to pore people
within the parisshe of Brenchesle.
Unto the Prior of Ledys my cosyn 6/8 and to every prest within
the same house 12d and to every novice there 4d to syng
dirige and masse for my soule.
Unto Agnes my wyff my best bedd and half the instuffe that she
brought unto me and the other half unto George Roberd my son.
Unto Agnes Roberd, Dennys Roberd, and Margaret Roberd the
doughters of Thos Roberd my son to every of them £10 to their mariage. If all
die the £30 to my son George. Exors. George Roberd my son and Edmunde Roberd
of Hawkeherst and John Roberd my son overseer.
This is: I wyll that my feoffes shall suffre Agnes my wyfe to
have and occupie my parlour within my principall mesuage with free goyng in to
the hall and easament in the kechyn in the gardeyn and to fetche water at the
well at all tymes.
I will George Roberd my son shall have a principall mesuage
reservyng unto my wif as it is before assigned and a tenement of land called
Casemannys with a house and a gardeyn therto and all the londs and tenements
that I purchased of Thomas Walter with this condicion that the seid George
paye unto Armell Roberd the son of Thos Roberd my son £60 in the
parisshe chirche of Brenchesley when the seid Armell comyth to the age of 24
yeres.
I will the seid George shall have in fee simple all the lands
etc. I bought of Thos Donke and iij pecs of londe and a gardeyn
called Peturs with a howse and a gardeyn lying to the same, Fowre pecs of
lande called Bells, a pece of lande callyd the Knok, a pece of lande called
Hunt mede, ij pecs of lande with a wood called Reynolds and a messuage with 5
acres lying in Brenchesley I bought of John Ongle to hym and to his for evyr,
a pece of lande called Mownds, a pece of land late bought of John Kyriell,
gentilman and a yerely Rent of 4s a yere oute of certeyn lands that
Roger Lorkyn holdeth of me in fee symple. Unto John Roberd my son a pece of
lande caled Melle mede.
I will myn extours shall receyve all the profyts of all the lands
and tenements the whiche were late Thos Roberd my son unto the tyme
the foreseid Armyll Roberd cometh to the age of 21 yeres paying unto his moder
40s a yere according to the will of Thos Roberd hir
husbond. Also the profyt of a mesuage and all the lands lying therto I bought
of ----- Buk and when the seid Armyll comyth to 21 then my feoffes deliver the
mesuage I bought of ----- Buk to him in fee symple.
My feoffes shall suffre myn extours to selle all those lands and
tenements I have in the parisshes of Capell, Tudele and Pepynbere and a
parcell of lande called Geggys and a parcell of londe I bought of Andrewe
Hoget in the parisshe of Brenchesle and the money comying to the mariages of
the doughters of Thomas Roberd my son. If George Roberd my son dye without
issue before 21 I will that Armyll Roberd have my principall mesuage with all
my lands in Brenchesley except Donkys and Peters.
I will that after the decease of Johane Breggs that Armyll Roberd
the son of Thos Roberd my son shall have the house the said Johane
dwelleth in to hym and his heires for ever.
Probate 15 Apr 1517 by exors.
