26 Aug. 1490. Margaret Norton beying in the
monastery of oure Lady Seynt Mary of West Mallyng. To be buried in the
Cloistre of the said Monastery nere to the grave of my broder Sir Robert
Norton. To the light of the chapel of oure lady in the said monastery 3/4. To
my lady Abbes for the Brekyng of the grounde for my sepulture 6/8. To the
saide Abbes at the day of my buryng xxd to every of the Ladies
proffessed 8d unproffessed 4d and to the cheef preest of
the said monastery 12d and to the second 8d to every
stranger not of the place and to the childe that shall reed the pistell ijd
and to the bell rynger vd. Also at my owte beryng to pour people to
be refressid with bred and drynke and to every man and woman jd and
to every childe a lofe of bred. Also I wil ther be expended at the day of my
buryng upon thabbes and the Covent 3/4 in vitaill. Also I will that at my
monethis day at all suche expensis be made and had as have bein reherced
before to be don at the tyme of my buryng. Also I will that at my moneth day
every yoman of the said place have iijd and to every oder servunt
of the said place ijd.
This is: of my messuage and gardeyn in West Mallyng First I will
that the feoffes shall allwey kepe repacions and yerely pay the Lordes rent
with the revenues and the over ?pluct I will it be delyvered yerely to the
priores and sexten of the monastery of West Mallyng to kepe obite for my sowle
and for the sowles of my fader and moder Robert and Margret and for the sowles
of my brethern Sir Robert Norton and Willyam and for all Xten sowles in the
maner and forme foloyng at suche tyme of the yere as it shall please God to
call me oute of the world.
First I will there be expended for the waste of V tapers of wex
brennyng the same tyme iijd. Item offeryng to be offered by on of
the said ij ladies jd. Item to the cheef preest vjd.
Item to the second preest iiijd. Item to hym that redith the
pistell ijd and for ryngyng vd. Item to the lady abbes
of the said professid except the priores and sexten every of them jd.
sum xiijd. And I will ther be every yere bough and puyded by the
said priores and sexten for the said covent to comfort them with ij quarters
of coles the residue of the saide money comyng of the saide messuage a bove
the charge a fore reherced.
I will the saide priores and sexten receyve and kepe in ther owen
handes to ther proper use for ther laboure And if it happen the foresaide
messuge be unletten to ferme I remitte thexecution of all the charges to the
saide priores and sexten for the tyme beyng. I will the chapitour preest of
the monastery syng or saye a trentall for my sowle in the saide monastery by
the space of xxx daies sayng daily the said 30 daies at the place of my
sepulture before masse or after at his pleasur the salme of deprofundis havyng
for his labour xs. And to sing for my sowle half on yere foloyng
the saide 30 daies havyng for his wagis 33/4 my lady abbes and the place
fyndyng hym his comyns and if my lady refuse to gyve hym his comyns then a
nother honest preest after the discrecion of my executrice.
I bequeth to the forsaide monastery a chales to be made with my
stondyng cup with the cover all gilt and other stuffe of the weight of 32
onces or therby and to sufficiant gilt with in and with owte. Also to the
saide monastery a fyne table cloth of drap conteynyng in lenkith vij yardes
starce and in brede 4 yardes starce marked with 3 and a towell most accordyng
to the werke. Also a fyne towell of drap of damaske werke to serve for a
howselyng towell conteynyng in lenkith viij yardes and in brede a yarde scarce
which towell was leid to plege to my broder Sr Robert Norton by
Dam. Margaret Waldren for xs the saide monastery to have and enjoie
the forsaid towell if it be not required by them that leid it to plege and if
it be requyred by them they payng xs to have it and the monastery
to have the xs to put it to what use it pleasith them the towell is
marked with 3.
Also to the saide Monastery a carpet to serve where it is thowght
by my lady abbes moost conveynant for the honour of the place and also a basen
and an ewer of ?Laton. Also a paire bedis of gete the gawdies of white ambur
to be delyved to Dame Johanne Knyth, priores to the use and behofe of the
forsaide place and my greate standart in my chamber to the sextry to ley in
the church clothes.
Also I bequeth for the fermory of the place a white bed with ij
curtayns a grete materas of white and a bolster a coverlet of white and blew
with berdis, iij platers, iij dishes, ij sawcers and a charge.
I bequeth to the Convent of the saide place xls, my
shepe beying in Netilsted at the tyme of makyng herof to thentant that the
priores and sexten and ther successours have the oversight and guydyng or
forth puttyng of them be it to ferme or otherwise and thessues and ?perfilles
cumyng be expended upon the saide convent in vitaille, the mondaies and the
fridaies after the discretion of the said priores and sexten in encreacyng of
their fare the forsaide daies a bour the usuall fare of dewti of the saide
place accomstomed as long as it shall please God the said stok of 40 shepe may
by good police and wise guydyng of the Priores and sexten contynew and endure.
To my lady Abbes a short pillow of downe.
To my cosyn Dame Johanne Northn mynche of the saide place, a
fetherbed, a bolster, a water chafer of Laton, a litle maser and on of my
forcers and my shep chest or a nother at her choise and my goblet of silver
with the cover.
Also I will that the ij bokes called portues that were my broder
Sir Robertis be delyved unto the monastery accordyng to the will of my broder
which was that they shulde never be aliened nor solde from the said monastery
in no behalfe and to that entente I will they be delyvered and to noon other.
I bequeith unto the monastery of Muttenden to pray for my soule
6/8 and in like wyse to the Monastery of Boxley 6/8. To the churche of
Boughton Monchesey a chalis to be made of my olde grotis wayng by estimacon
xviij onces or therby to be gut and made after the discron of my extrice or
ellis a cope of the same valour at the choise of the same parissens.
To Mastr Botiller a chafing ball of silver and gilte
wrought with flowres delice and to my cosen Anne his wife a pair of bedis of
corall the gawdies of Jasp yt calsidones and a brode girdell of violet bokle
and pendant silver and gilte and all my new pewter vessell and a chafur of
bras.
To my cosyn George Norton a litle saltsaler with owte ?Kent and a
girdell the course blak and silver and gilte the bokill and pendant, which
salte and girdell were bothe my moders. Item: a coveryng of a bed and a
testoure with flowres delice with a paire of bedis of corall the gawdies of
silver.
Also I will my cosyn Johanne Norton my broders doughter and my
god doughter have my mirrey gowne purfelled with graye and a litle kertill.
Also my cosyn Johanne Norton of Charte have my bonet of blak velvet and a
frontelet of Tawny velvet.
To Johanne Baker my servunt for her good service done unto me a
litle fetherbed, a bolster, a paire of blankettis, ij paire of shetis, on of
flex and noder hempe, a silver spone, an old kirtell , a coverlet of red, a
playn towell and ij pottis bought of Master Selynger. To Margaret Baker a
paire of old blanketts, a coveryng for a bed of blew and white, and a gowne
cloth.
To Mastr Regnold Pympe a fetherbed, a bolster of
chekir Ray, a paire of fustians. I will Master Whitmore have a pillowe and a
grene pot. I will Mestres Elizabeth Pympe wedow have ij bras pottis. To my
goddoughter Anne Catelyn my tawney gowne that I laste made and a narrow
girdell gilt.
I will the churche of Netilsted have a chalice to the value of
53/4 or therby.
I will Master Jasp Tirell have a pair of fustians the best and on
paire shetis of iij bredis. The Residue to be solde by my executrice to
performe my bequestis and chargis. I make and ordeyn my cosyn Anne Botiller
wif of John Botiller sargeant of the Law my executrice.
