The first part of this Will is written in Latin
6 Oct 1491. Johannes Turke of Mereworth. Names and places
mentioned include: Church of St Laurence of Mereworth. Wife Johanne. Son
William. Thomas Popett, William Smyth, Richard Rayne, Jacobo Bowerman and
Johanne Penyale.
This ys of all my landes and tenements etc. First I will my
feoffees Thos Turke, Richd Bowreman, James Bowreman, and
Stephyn Dame shall make astate to Johanne my wif of the west ende of my Hall
with fre goyng and comyng at all tymes and of the Hemphawe lying before the
strete gate for terme of hir life. Also an annyte of 26/8 going oute of all my
landes etc. in the parissh of Merwith for terme of hir lif with a clause of
distresse for the defaute of payment.
Also anone aftre this graunte so made my feoffes shall enfeoffe
William my sonne of and in all my foresaid landes and tenementes to have to
hym and to his heires for each undre this condicion that the said William his
heires or his assignes shall fynde to Johane my wif mete and drynke fere and
flette competent and behofull as shalbe nedefall to hir for terme of hyr lif
and also kepe myn obite yerely durying hys lif as in dirige masse brede and
drynke in the churche of Merwith for my soule my frendes soules and all Xten
soules.
Probate 4 Jan 1499 by Wm Potkyn proct and com Johanne
relict in person of said proctor.
