Entry from Kelly's type Directory Meopham 1905

Description of item below, with photograph to right of the wool, drapery and gift store which served for many years as "Gay Cousins", now demolished. 

An article from The Meopham Review 1975. Entitled "Morning School at Meopham 1906".   Account of a child's first day at school, describing the journey there, the primitive toilet arrangements. It was a small private school next to the Railway Tavern. Run by a Miss Poskit who cycled from Gravesend each day.  Adventures on the way back from school. Scudder's hansom cab. The Gravesend bus, The Meopham Surprise. Brewery wagon of Woodford's from Gravesend. A the Temperence Hotel a wagon from the Gravesend Ice & Cold Storage.

At the very bottom, The Old Meopham Horse Bus. It ran from 1880 to 1914 between Meopham, Cobham and Gravesend. Driven by Mr Alf Clark, who came to live in Meopham when he was 13 years old. With lots of information about the happenings over the years.

Entry from Kelly's Directory: Detail and times of post, including William Langford, James Rands , Walter Parsons and John Harpley sub-postmasters at various places in Meopham. Schools Percy C. Windo schoolmaster, Mrs Elizabeth Ann Hooker mistress. John James Kift station-master. Frederick Joseph Pattenden, police constable. Carrier: Joseph Clark.  Times of buses.
