Abstract of the will of George Morland of Chelsfield Court
Lodge Esquire dated 7 October 1811.
I give all such my real estate whether freehold or copyhold
not comprised in the settlement lately executed by me on the intended
marriage of my wife’s niece Elizabeth Elvy, to the use of my friends
John Rigden of Faversham and William Yatman of the Inner Temple gentleman
and their heirs upon trust to sell and convert into money, to be
considered part of my personal estate.
I give to my dear wife Frances Morland £500 for her own use,
secured by certain Bonds of the City of London, which were her own
previous to our marriage.
I give to my esteemed friend Samuel Cotes and to the said
William Yatman £50 each.
I give to my godson George St. Pierre Harris £10.
I give all my books and musical and mathematical instruments
to my niece Elizabeth Elvy for her own use.
I give all my household furniture, pictures, plate etc. to
John Rigden and William Yatman upon trust to permit my wife to have the
use of so much as she may select for life. These items are to form part of
my personal estate.
I leave all residue to my said Trustees to convert into
money and thereout to purchase in the first place £600 £5% Annuities in
their names and to pay the interest thereof to my bailiff Mr. Edward
Farley for his life. In the second place my Trustees are to purchase
£2000 Bank £3% reduced Annuities in their names and to lay out the
remainder of my personal estate in the purchase of Consolidated £3%
Annuities. My Trustees shall stand possessed of all this stock (subject to
the life interest of Edward Farley) upon Trust:
To permit my wife to receive the interest thereof for life,
and after her death to pay the interest on the £2000 Bank Annuities to my
niece Susan Elvy until her marriage, and upon her marriage with the
consent of her sister Elizabeth Elvy to transfer the stock to two trustees
so that she receive the interest thereof for life, and the principal to be
in trust for her children [other lengthy conditions, not taken].
I appoint my Trustees as Executors.
