Toke's and others, Heraldic Ledger Stones in Kent churches

Edward SMITH  1710  St Margaret's at Cliffe

The medallion measures 23inch x21¾inch and is cut in relief on a yellowish ledger stone, 78inchx 39inch in the north aisle at the east end.

Arms: Or, three bars, sa. inc hief three crosses formies fitchees of the second for SMITH (of Boughton Monchelsea and Chart Sutton). Impaling Barry of three .. for BURY. Crest: On a mount vert, a Talbot segant, erm. gared and collared, sa. ringed, or, on the dexter side of the mount a branch of laurel of the first.

Here lye Interred ye Bodys of Edward SMITH, Gent who died ye 29th March 1710 Aged 77 Years and of Elizabeth his wife Eldest sister of Sr John BURY, Knt who died 28th April Ao Dni 1725 in the 76th year of her Age.
