Abstract of Will from Hythe, Kent from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of Thomas WALTON of Hythe, Kent 24 March 1508-9

Thomas WALTON, 24 March 1508-9.
Buried in the high chancel before St Leonard, paying 10s. for my burial.
High altar 20d; of Cheriton 8d. To the Prior of Folkestone for my tithes 8d. Vicar of Newynton for tithes 8d. Rector of Saltwood for tithes 8d.
To every Light in Hithe that I am a brother 4d. Reparation of Hithe church 20s. Parish priest of Hithe 6s.8d. Parish clerk 6d.
Alice BUKLAND, John BLANDERELL, Elizabeth RENNAKYR my servants ,each one haffer and six ewes.
Harry BAKER 20s. to find him to scoole and three ewes.
Wife Alice have 100 ewes, John HALE and Thomasine his wife 100 ewes.
Wife Alice my waggon with four oxen, one stere, mare, gelding, and all harness, my plough with all harness, for her life, then to John and Thomasine HALE for ever.
Wife Alice dispose yearly for my soul 6s.8d. in the church . After her death John and Thomasine HALE dispose 6s.8d. yearly during their lives.
Residue of goods after paying debts, etc. to wife Alice, John HALE and Thomasine his wife, my Executors, with John CHILTON overseer.
Wife Alice have income from my chief messuage in Hethe with all the bruehouse, and safferon garden in Heth called Spitell ground, my little garden at Damyott, half acre of wood at Bergrove in Saltwood parish during her life, then to Thomasine Hale my daughter and her heirs for ever.
Also wife have income from my tenement Depe Gate in Cheriton with all lands thereto for life, then to my daughter Thomasine Hale and her lawful issue. In default to the House of Marenden of Dover for ever, keeping an Obit for me twice in the year.
After my death Thomasine my daughter my tenement in Hethe bought from Julyane SMALWODE, and to her heirs for ever. Also Thomasine have my tenement and lands Orgrove in Folkestone and to her lawful issue. In default to the House of Holy Sepulchre of Canterbury for ever, keeping an Obit for me yearly.
After my death the Churchwardens of St Leonard’s, Hethe have my piece of land called the Kowleese at Damyott, and to their successors for reparation of the church for ever.
John HALE have my land at Belcheberough, land called Stonewel acre beside Mardyners in parish of Cheriton, land at Sandis Hill in Newenton, one acre bought from William JENKYN sometime JOHN A SENDS; one acre before the Cross at Canon Court in Newynton, and to his heirs in fee.
Will so ends.
