Abstract of Will from Hythe, Kent from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

John STACE, senior, 20 April 1474.
Buried in churchyard of Capella of St Leonard of Heth.
High altar for tithes 20d. Light of St James, St John Baptist, Blessed Mary in choro (quire) 12d. each. Parish priest 18d. Parish clerk 6d.
Dom William BAKER, chaplain of Myssendew 6s.8d.
Operibus of Cheriton church 6s.8d; of Capella of St Leonard Hith a green girdle harnessed with silver.
Residue to Executors – Thomas EDWEY and Robert CLERK.
Lands, tenements in Hith, Cheriton, Lymynge.
Son John have a Mill in Hith in Medilward, a croft of land in Newington parish next Domyett and to his lawful issue, in default to be sold and money disposed in alms and works of charity for my soul as thought best.
After my death two crofts of land called Lesedes in Lyminge be sold, the money – John my son five marcs (66s.8d), residue for my soul, parents, etc.
Two acres of land in Lyminge at Echyngheld be sold, the money to the reparation of the Cross upon the falistu (cliff) next Hith in parish of Saltwode 6s.8d; repair of highway between the cross and Cross called Tenaris Cross in Saltwode 33s.4d.
Agnes my daughter tenement in the Medilward, and to her lawful issue, paying to Alice JEKYN of Wye my daughter five marcs (66s.8d) by 13s.4d. a year, then Agnes to pay Margaret EDEWY my daughter 6s.8d. yearly. If Agnes die without lawful issue, the tenement to be sold by Executors – the money to Robert Clerk 40s. and residue disposed for my soul.
Wife Alice all my lands in Chariton for her life, then to Margaret EDWEY my daughter and her lawful issue, paying to Alice JENKIN of Wye my daughter five marcs yearly by 13s.4d. If Margaret die without lawful issue and her husband Thomas EDWAY be living, then Cheriton lands be sold, the money to Thomas EDWEY five marcs, and residue disposed for our souls.
