Abstract of Will from Goodnestone next Wingham, Kent from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of John GODENESTON of Goodnestone next Wingham 4 Oct 1511

John GODENESTON, gentleman, 4 October 1511.
Buried in the Church of Goodneston beside my wife.
High altar 3s.4d; of Nonington 20d.
Son Thomas six marcs (£4) to be paid by William my son by 13s.4d. yearly.
Residue after paying debts, etc. to son William, my Executor.
Witnesses – John GUDFELOWE, William CORALL, Thomas FRODE.
Son William have all my lands, tenements, rents, services, etc. in Godneston and Nonington, and to his eldest issue male for ever, and if any of the said issue "be within holy orders", then he shall not have or inherit none of the said lands, etc. except he be the last and longest liver of the male issue, then to have for his life.
If son William die without male issue, then all lands, etc. to son Thomas and his eldest male issue (as above). If no male issue then to eldest heir female of William GODNESTON and to her heirs, providing a priest to sing for our souls.
