Abstract of Will from Goodnestone next Wingham, Kent from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of Thomas GATE of Goodnestone next Wingham 6 August 1494

Thomas GATE, 6 August 1494.
Buried in churchyard of Holy Cross of Goodneston.
High altar one ewe. Light of Holy Cross of Offynton a bushel of barley. A priest celebrate for my soul a trental during one month 10s.
One ewe ech to William, Thomas, James and John CHESEMAN.
Executors – William and Simon my sons, and have residue.
Feoffees – Robert QUYLTER, Thomas FORNOR.
Son Simon have all lands, tenements, and to his heirs, on condition he pays to William his brother 11 marcs (£7.6s.8d), within seven years after my death, but if Simon die before money is paid and without lawful issue, then son William have all the lands, etc. and to his heirs for ever, providing a priest to celebrate for our souls for quarter of a year.
If William die without lawful issue then lands, etc. be sold and half the money to the reparation of the church, and other half for our souls.
Witnesses – Dom John GOODFELLOW, vicar (sic), Robert QUYLTER, John FROODE.
