Abstract of Will from Ebony, Kent from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of Joane TAYLOUR of Ebony, Kent 24 December 1518

Joane TAYLOUR, widow, Redyng in Ebbeney, 24 December 1518.
Buried in the churchyard of Our Lady of Ebbeney.
High altar for tithes 4s. To the Light of Our Blessed Ladie 6d. To every other Light in the church 4d. To the necessary reparations and charges of the church 40s. Reparation of the Chapel at Reding 10s. Reparation of the church or House of Friars at Lussenham in the parish of Newenden 6s.8d. Reparation of the church or House of Friars of Wynchelsey called the Black Friars 6s.8d. An honest priest celebrate for my soul, and of my husband in the church of Ebbeney by the space of one whole year and half a year £10.
Edward my son at the age of 21 years £20. If son die before that age, the £20 to Executor towards the performance of my testament.
Edward REYNOLD my uncle 20s.
To every of the sons of the said Edward REYNOLD at age of 21 years 20s. and to every of his daughters at marriage 20s.
To my mother Joane RAYNOLD all the wares and stuff now in my shop, my best gown, best kirtill.
Juliane BROWNE of Newenden six ells of canvas, and 20s.
The wife of Thomas CLARKE of Ebbeney my best kirtill save two, and 20s, and six ells of canvas.
Joan, wife of William HAMOND of Reding my best gown, save one, and 20s.
The wife of the said Edward RAYNOLD my best kirtill save one.
Alice ROODE my father’s servant one fustian kirtill.
To 16 poor women at discretion of my father, to every of them two ells of canvas.
To the repair of the foote weyes betwixt the parish church of Ebbeney and Redyng 6s.8d; of the foteweye betwixt Redyng and Buttishill 20s.
Residue of goods to John REYNOLD my father, my Executor.
If Edward my son die without heirs of his body lawful before age of 21 years, then John HALES, gentilman, Christopher HALES, Thomas WOOD and James TAYLOUR, Feoffees of all my lands and tenements, etc. in Biddinden do sell all the same and the money to my Executor to fulfilling of all such bequests and legacies as followeth: First to a priest celebrating divine service for my soul and of my husband for two years in the church of Ebbeney, and one year in the church of Bidinden £20. To the reparation of said parish church £3.6s.8d. To the reparation of the church of Ebbeney £5. To every of the sons of Harry A BAROWE, late of Bidinden, at the age of 21 years 20s. And to every of the daughters at their marriage 20s. To the said Edward RAYNOLD £3.6s.8d. To every of his sons 20s. And to every daughter at their marriage 20s.
Residue of money from sale of my lands be distributed to the exhibition of one priest celebrating divine service in the said parish of Ebbene, and other deeds of charity according to the mind and discretion of my father, my Executor.
