Godeman THURBARNE of St Mary in the Marsh, 16 April 1461.
Buried in the church of St Mary in the Marsh before altar of St Mary ex parti boriental (north) of the said church.
High altar for tithes 2s. Fabrice of the church, viz: ad opus scabellorum (stools) sove (or) scannorum (benches) five marcs (66s.8d.). To said church ad opus suppellice (surplices) 5s.
Light of the Crucifix in the church 3s.4d. Light of St Mary in the church 3s.4d. To Brotherhood of St Mary church one ewe. To Brotherhood of St Katherine church one ewe. To the church of Dovyn? A candela that the parishioners of same pray for my soul 3s.4d.
That Petronille my servant have a cow.
To the Friars Augustine of Canterbury that they celebrate mass for my soul 10s, also to Friars Preachers of same city, that they celebrate masses for my soul 5s, and same to Friars Minor.
A priest celebrate for my soul for a quarter in church of St Mary in Marsh 33s.4d.
To Dom Thomas at Aysh 8d.
Residue after paying debts etc. to Executors – John my son and John LAY to dispose for my soul.
Witnesses – Dom Thomas at Aysh parish chaplain of St Mary in Marsh, John MURRYELL, senior.
Wife Petronille have one half part of all my messuage, lands and tenements for her life and camera with caminis (stove) also all my utensilia and hustamentalia pertaining to said camera, on condition she provide in the church of St Mary during her life, yearly anniversary for my soul and my parents.
Sons John and William have the other part of all messuages, lands and tenements equally between them, also other half part of all utensilia and hustament of my house, and after death of Petronilla her part: if they died without issue, then all to be sold, and money for our souls.
No Probate date. Archdeaconry Vol.1, fol. 277. Vol. 1449-69.
Probably the "Goodmanus DURBARRE" (sic) are of the Constables of the Hundred of Langport (Old and New Romney and part of Midley) who was pardoned 7 July 1450 for having joined John CADE. Archaeological Cantiana vii, 245.
