Abstract of St Lawrence Thanet Wills from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of Thomas JURDAN 21 August 1480 of St Lawrence Thanet

Thomas JURDAN of St Lawrence in Thanet, 21 August 1480.
To be buried in the Nave of the Church.
To the operibus of the church 20s. and two torches price 10s.
For one chalice in said church £3. To each Light in the church of which I am a Brother one bushel of barley.
To operibus of church of St John 3s.4d. and two torches price 10s. To operibus of church of St Peter 20d. and one torch price 5s.
John JURDAN my brother 6s.8d. and to each son and daughter of said John 20d.
To Alice COPYN 6s.8d.
To Margaret LAMBYN 6s.8d. and 12 ewes and to John, son of said Margaret two sheep.
To Joan POULYN if she shall remain with my wife until of age to be married 20s.
Friars Preachers of Canterbury for half a trental 5s. Friars Carmelites of Sandwich for half a trental 5s.
Wife Alice all utensilia of my house.
Executors – Wife Alice, John POULYN, Joyn SAYER.
Feoffees of lands and tenements in parishes of St Lawrence and St Peter: Richard VALERYAN, John POULYN and Simon COKELYN.
My messuage and two acres of land at Kynys in parish of St Peter to be sold to pay debts, legacies, etc.
John JURDAN my brother have one acre and half of land at place called Shorte and Brode.
Wife Alice have seven acres of land called Studdis piece, also to hold and occupy all others for life and at Feast of St Michael next after her death, that Margarete my daughter have 11 acres of land situated between North Wode and Hayne and at same time all other lands and tenements shall be sold and with money a chaplain celebrate in church of St Lawrence for one year and have ten marcs (£6.13s.4d.); and to operibus of church five marcs (£3.6s.8d.) to repair of a road for the cross called Longs as far as the church 40s, and to the poor five marcs.
To Friars Preachers of Canterbury 5s. Friars Carmelite of Sandwich 5s. and to daughter Margaret ten marcs and residue for my soul.
