Abstracts of Littlebourne Wills from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of John HERSING of Littlebourne 7 January 1468-9

John HERSING of Littilborne, 12 September 1468.
Buried in church of St Vincent of Lytilborne before the Cross.
A vestment for a priest be bought for the church 40s.
For the church lapidand iter ortium cancelle et les Westdore 53s.4d. or 66s.8d. if necessary.
Fabrice campanil of Monastery of St Augustine 66s.8d.
Cristine my daughter when 18, have £20.
Alice my daughter when 18 have £20.
Wife Katherine all utensilia of my house.
Residue to wife Katherne Stephen BARETT and John BULLING my Ex’ors, to dispose for my soul.
Will personally recited by me to Thomas LEVYNS, Roger BRENTT, John BULLYNG, William MASSEY and Thomas BLAKISLAND my Feoffees.
   Wife Katherine have all y lands and tenements, pasture, woods, etc. in parish of Westbere, and all other lands in Sturrey in Borgha de Bukwell, duringher life, then to Joan, Cristine and Alice my daughters, their heirs etc. equally for ever.
Also wife Katherine give up all her claim to my tenement at the Forstall in Sturrey with all its lands.
   That Stephen BARETT after my death have my lands, tenement, pasture and wood at le Forstall in Sturrey aforesaid and to his heirs etc. for ever paying to my Ex’ors £100, the money to be distributed to a chaplain celebrating in church of Lytilborne for my soul, etc. for three whole years, having 10 marcs yearly, and 66s.8d. in each of the churches of Sturrey, Westbere and Stodmarsh for one vestment for a priest to be bought; and to William WAYTE nuper Vicar of Lytilborne, now of Bocton*, 5 marcs,Joan my daughter wife of Nicholas GILBERT £10; Katherine my wife £20, and residue by discretion of Ex’ors.
