Kent Archives Office—Accessions, 1953-54

THE principal accessions received in the County Archives Office between 1st August, 1953, and 31st July, 1954, have been:
   Petty Sessions Records [Cat. Mk. PS] : minutes and registers for the following divisions—Ashford, 1773-1893; North Aylesford, 1754-1914; Mailing, 1747-1903; St. Augustine, 1833-1913; Sevenoaks, 1709-10, 1812-78 ; Sittingbourne, 1893-1912; Wingham, 1715-1915; Maid-stone Borough, 1846-81.

BOROUGH AND LIBERTY RECORDS
   Tenterden Borough [Cat. Mk. Te]: custumal and minutes, 1538-1835 ; accounts, 1736-1813 ; records of court of record and Sessions of the Peace, 1538-1951 ; miscellaneous correspondence, etc., 1615-1853.
   Sandwich Borough: Consuetudines Ville Sandwici [Cat. Mk. 1J387], a 14th century copy of the custumal of Sandwich, possibly the original compiled for Adam Champneys in 1301, though more likely a slightly later copy. This volume, which was purchased, had been out of the hands of the borough for an unknown period of years.
   Liberty of Romney Marsh [Cat. Mk. Rm]1 General 

Assembly and other administrative archives, 1604-1860 ; financial archives, 1796-1888 ; law suits affecting charter rights, 1744-1895 ; coroners’ court, 1745-1853 ; court of Quarter Sessions, 1610-1903 ; special and petty sessions, 1738-1917 ; court of record, 1587-1785 ; miscellaneous clerks’ papers, 1751-1864.

SEWERS RECORDS
   Archives of the Lords, Bailiff and Jurats of Romney Marsh [Cat. Mk. S/Rm]1. Decrees, minutes, etc., of Lathe and Out of Lathe, 1579-1896; accounts and vouchers, 1537-1896; scot books, 1526-1931 maps, 1640-1766, and later plans; correspondence, letter books, legal papers and miscellanea, 18th-20th century.

HOSPITAL RECORDS
   St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, Chatham (now Rochester) [Cat. Mk. Ch 2]. Lease books, 1620-1833 ; estate books, 1627-1834; rentals, 1661-1801
