EXCAVATIONS ON THE SITE OF THE LEPER HOSPITAL, NEW ROMNEY. By Miss K. M. E. Murray continued

grey ware and a cooking pan handle in red ware, the upper side pierced with pin-prick holes. Finer unglazed ware included a piece of heavy red ware showing trace of painted decoration in cream, and a jug rim and neck with smooth ribs in yellowish ware.

III. TILES.
One complete tile (green) measuring 7" square, and many pieces of thick floor tiles with yellow and dark green glaze were found. No decorated tiles were discovered, and no tiles were in situ.

IV. METAL.
(a) Counter (base metal).
One fifteenth century counter for use with the Abacus was

 found. It has the sacred monogram IHS on one side, surrounded by an inscription MISIT.DNS.MANUM.SUAM. (The Lord has put out His hand) and on the reverse across, with small fleur-de-lys in the angles, and the inscription XPE (?). FILI. FEI. VIVI. MISER (Have pity, Christ, Son of the Living God).

(b) Bronze.
A very small fragment of crumpled sheeting.

(c) Iron.
A number of large headed nails, staples, and an iron weight. These objects will be placed in the Museum in Romney Town Hall together with a plan of the excavations.
