This written by RICHARD MARTEN being in health and memorie etc. My body to the earth from whence it came. To the poore at my buriall 20s. and for a sermon then 10s. To my wife £100 and all the household stuffe, the stuffe belonginge to husbandrie I doe not meane. Vnto my sonne Richard £50. My daughter Marie £4. So it bee that my wife bee with childe, unto the childe £40. Vnto the children of Henrie Steuens. I meane that Stevens that did dwell at Chalke £3 equallie. Vnto my godsonne Josua Marten 40s. Vnto my godsonne Robert Marten to buy him some bookes 10s. My meaning is that looke how muche my goods dothe come vnto more then I have disposed of my debts all paide that then the ouerplusse shall thus be deuided: The one halfe to my wife and the other of my children equallie. If there be no child then the £40 betwene my wife and children. My wife shall have the vse of my childrens stock towards the bringinge of them vpp till they come of sufficient yeres to bee put forthe. My will is my brother Lake shall bee overseer and my father and wife executrix. Proved 25 September 1615 by Helen Marten relict. (276a Abbot I).
