JOHN JAMES of the parishe of Lighe in Kent (Rochester diocese vacant) 1 December 1559. To be buried in churchyard of Lighe. At the day of my buriall vnto tenne poore honest howsolders 10s. Vnto my godsonne John Carpenter, sonne vnto John Carpenter the paler 6s. 8d. to be put and employed to hys vse at discretion of my ouersear and hys father vntill he be of the age of 18 yeres. Vnto James Tapham my godsonne 6s. 8d. vnto hys vse as ys aforeseyd. This moneye to be payed at the daye of my monethes mind. Vnto Hugh Gene my boye and seruant 40s. at my monethes mind by my executor vnto the handes of Thomas Daniell hys servant to the vse of the sayd Hughe Gyne vntill he be of the age of 20. 
Vnto Agnes my wyfe £13. 6. 8. whereof she had in her salue keping £4. Vnto my frend Edward Cole my lease of my howse which I now dwell yn and the which I do hold of my good Mr. Sr. Henry Sydneye, Knight for terme of yeares and he to receive the same of my wyfe Agnes James at my monethes mynd paying vnto her £5 and also at the Purificacion of our blessed lady next following my decease vnto the handes of Thomas Daniell my servant £5. 6. 8. and to my loving frend Richard Dalton 53s. 4. and the residue of the 20 tie markes bequethed to my sayd wyfe being £4. 8. I will her to have out of such moneye as ys now owinge vnto me and of such mony as shalbe made of my brickes and other things to be sold. Vnto John Smithwike 6s. 8d. Residue (my working tooles and moulds excepted which I give vnto Thos. Daniell my servant) vnto Agnes James my wyfe whome I make executrix and my good frend Mr. John Paswater my ouersear. Witness: Androwe Mercer, John Standell, John Smithwike. 
Proved 21 February 1559 by executrix. (151b Parker I).
