ROBERT COLWELL of the Towne and Libertye of Feversham in Kente, 3 June 31 Elizabeth (1589). To be buried where it shall please God. I will there shal be preached a sermon at my funerall by a discreete and learned precher to ye edifyinge of the congregation then presente and he to haue for his paynes 6s. 8d. and that there be baked into breade one quarter of the wheat in my house for to be given to the poore then presente at my funerall. I remitt to Thomas Gateman who intermaryed with my cosen (sic) Rose Colwell daughter and sole executrix to my brother John Colwell her father all that my brothers debte dewe to me so as the said Thos. Gateman pay of the same to George Colwell and Robert Colwell sonnes of the saide John C. wt in 2 yeares 20s. To my brother Thomas Colwell £5 on condicon he cause all his sonnes to release vnto Thomas Colwell my sonne theire rights, tytles etc in any of the landes wch did discend and come vnto the said Thomas Colwell heire father before such tymes as this legacy shalbe paide. Unto Barbara Worley my sister Jane her daughter nowe my servant 40s. if she continuewe in servyce wt my wife two yeares over and aboue her wages. Unto my doughter Anne Lambe one Angell of Goulde to make a rynge in remembrance. To Anne Lambe her daughter 40s. and to Fraunces Lambe her other daughter 40s. to each when 18. To Elizabeth Throwley my daughter £5, she and her husband makeinge dischardge therefore to my executour. Vnto Thomas, Henry and Robert Throwley sonnes of the said Elizabeth every of them 20s. when 21. Vnto Dorothy Throwley daughter of the said Elizabeth 40s. at 20 or mariadge. Vnto Avys Throwley another daughter 20s. at 20 or mariadge. To Johan Maxsted my daughter one Angell of gould to make a Ringe of Remembrance.
To Jerman Colwell my eldest sonne my gould ringe ingraved with my Armes and to Richard Colwell my sonne my other gould ringe wt a Redde stone. 
If Dorothie my now wief doo inhabite in my mansion house wherein I nowe doe dwell in Feversham during her lief she shall have ye vse and occupation of all the moveable goods of householdstuffe etc (except ye furniture and household stuff in the hall when it is best furnished the great chamber and the parlour wch I giue vnto Thomas Colwell my sonne and all portalles and settles of waynescot windowes of glass and all stones, lyme, breks and tymber and all other necessaryes for buildinge wch is or shalbe at the daie of my death in any of my houses I give to ye saide Thomas my sonne. Residue to Dorothy my wief. 
Thomas Colwell my sonne executor and my sonne Robert Lambe overseer. Witnesses Robert Lambe, Henry Sommers, Thos Saunders and Samuel Adam. Last Will – of all my landes etc in Kent. To Thomas Colwell my sonne all my landes, tenements etc. which I the said Robert Colwell have in the parishes, Townes and feildes of Feuersham, Preston next Fauersham, Graveney, Godonston, Seasalter, Harnehill, Boughton vner the Bleane, Bucklande, Stone, Tenham, Luddenham (except my three Tenements in the Towne and Liberty of Feuersham whereof two are in a streete comonly called West Street on the North parte of the same streete wch late were Lewes Mardens and Genings and ye thirde in Abby Streete I late purchased of Henry Goldsmith ats Finche) and my mind is that the Thomas Colwell shall suffer Dorothy now my wief and naturall mother of the said Thomas to dwell in my nowe mansion house wherein I inhabite in Feuersham wch I late purchased of Anthony Sondes Esquire and to take all the yearly profitts etc during her lief, provided that if the said Thomas will come and his wief and famylie wt him or he sole to dwell in the said house that then his saide Mother and her family wth the said Thomas and his familye to take the vse of the same house and all the orchardes, garden etc. The said Thomas shall yearly pay to the said Dorothy her ioynture of £30 (with clause of distress in any lands given to the said Thomas). 
My will is that my sonne Thomas Colwell shall pay within three years vnto my sonne German Collwell 100 marks (with power of distress) and to Richard Colwell my sonne £60 (with power of distress) and to Robert Colwell my sonne when 26 and to Henry Colwell, John Colwell and Ciriacke Colwell my sonnes to every of them when 26 £50 (each with power of distress for non-payment). Also the said Thomas Colwell shall pay to every of my daughters vnmaryed £50 after their mariages (each with power of distress). 
I give my tenement in the West Street late Mardens (on north side of the said street) in occupation of Thos Saunders and the garden as it is nowe inclosed from ye house and garden late – Genings, exceptinge the litle shoppe and chamber over the same shoppe now in the tenure of Samuell Adams and recourse for the inhabitant that shall dwell in the same house late Genings for to fett water and to have the vse of the well in the forsaid tenement late Mardens to German Colwell my sonne and his heires and for default of heires to Richard Colwell my sonne. 
To Henry Colwell my sonne my tenement late Genings in tenure of Samuel Adams and garden late parcell of the garden of Mardens as it is now devyded by a payle erected and recourse to the well and the litle shop and chamber over the same and for default of heirs to John Colwell my sonne. Vnto Robert Colwell my sonne my tenement I purchased of Henry Gouldefinche als Finche in Abbeye Streete in Feuersham and for default to Syriacke Colwell. My son Thomas to take profitts till Henry and Robert are 26. By me Robert Colwell. Witnesses Robert Lambe, Harry Sommere, Thos Saunders, Samuel Adams. 
Proved 2 July 1589 by executor. (208b Whitgift I).
