OTTO de GRANDISON, Knight, Monday next before the feast of the Nativity of Blessed Mary 1358. To be buried in the church of the College of Saint Mary de Otery, Exeter Diocese and I happen there to die, or if I happen to die at Chellesfeld then I leave my body to be buried in the chapel of Saint John of Chellesfeld, beseeching and supplicating my friends and execcutors of their love that they will not permit any armed man or horse to go before my body on the day of my burial nor any corpse to be covered with any coloured or golden cloth or with my arms but only a white cloth marked with a red cross. I desire that all my debts be paid before legacies. 
I leave to the work (operi) of the chancel of the church of Asshe next Faukham 50s. To the high altar of the church of Chellesfeld for tithes 20s. of Orpynton 20s and of ‘la Hese’ that the Rector there may celebrate for my soul 10s. I leave to five poor impotent (debilioribus) persons of the parish of Hese for the soul of Sir Gilbert de Beachamp 20s. I leave for the sustentation of two wax tapers of 18 lb to be lighted every day for ever at the Elevation of the Sacrament in the church of Chellesfeld four good cowes and 20 good mother sheep together with the wax left on the day of my death. To the light of Blessed Mary in the church of Chellesfeld two good cowes. I leave for the sustentation of a wax taper of 3 lb for ever burning on solempne days ‘juxta costeram Beate Marie dexteram in ecclesia predicta’ a good cow and six mother sheep. I leave to the painting of the image of Blessed Mary in the said church 20s. To the sustentation of a great wax taper of 10 lb for ever burning upon solempne days before the image of Christ in the said church 40 mother sheep with the wax upon the said taper existing on the day of my death. 
For the funeral expenses on the day of my burial and to distribute to the poor £20 and ten quarters of wheat and if this is not sufficient my executors to amend. To the poor on the day of my death five marcs, and on my anniversary 5 marcs. To 40 of my poor tenants at Chellesfeld 40s. To sustentation of an honest chaplain to celebrate for my soul the divine offices in the church of Chellesfeld for three years £15. To the Friars Preachers of London 20s. To the Friars of the Order of Saint Francis of London 40s. The Carmelite Friars of London half a marc. The Friars of Saint Augustine of London 20s. To the Cross at the "Northedore" in the church of Saint Paul a ‘florein’ half a marc. To the image of Blessed Mary at the entrance of the said ‘Northdore’ the same. To the chapel of St. Leonard at Malling a florin 40d. 
I leave to Thomas my son all my arms, four oxen or horses (affros) for farm work, 12 oxen (boves) and 200 mother sheep. To Elizabeth my daughter 6 dishes, 6 saucers and 4 cups of silver which I bought of the executors of Sir Nichs Malemayme. To the Prioress of Akorneley and the nuns there serving God to celebrate for the soul of Thady de Pyse and William his son 10 marcs. I leave to Dame Matilda, Prioress de Akorneley my sister 10  I leave to William Bastard my son 10 marcs. To Sir Theobald de Mounteny all the harness and carts of the manor of Asshe 4 ‘affros’, 4 oxen pertaining to the said carts, 50 wethers (multones), 50 mother sheep there and all my brass pots and cloths of woollen and linen and beds and tables to the said manor of Asshe belonging as appears in an inventory in my custody between the chamberlain and me. 
To Roger de Godestr and Alice his wife 40s. (see his will post). To John Grouere late my chamberlain 13s. 4d. To John Walsh 20s. and a robe, Richard Kide 6s. 8d., Stephen Typon 6s. 8d., John de Proutlee senior 13s. 4d., Richard Coupere ‘tentori meo’ 6s. 8d. and a robe, Simon Dantri 6s. 8d. To each of my attendants (famulo) in my service on the day of my death 12d. To Robert Shabon 13s. 4d. To each lad (garcioni) in my service for a year 40d. To Hamo atte Gate 10 marcs. To Richard Leuerer ‘si moraturus fuerit in servicio meo dum vixero’ 20s. To the work (opus) of the church of Chellesfeld for the soul of Stephen Prat 20s. To Gilbert Beauchamp 100s. To Agnes dau. of William de Godinton 100s. To John Chamberleyn 20s. and my best robe. To Robert, clerk, of Castellalr 20s., William Orped 10s., Sir William Skidemore chaplain 20s., John Haddam if in my service 6s. 8d., Geoffry Waldyn 60s., Stephen de Asschewy for the soul of Sir Stephen his father 66s. 8d., to John Harward 6s. 8d., John Stedeman 6s. 8d., John Sibbyng 6s. 8d., William atte Well 20s. To the Prior of Christ Church, Canterbury for arrears of services due to him for his manor of Orpynton 100s. 
The Residue I leave to Beatrice my wife to do therewith for the health of my soul. I make Executors Beatrice my wife, Sir Theobald de Mounteny, Hamo atte Gate and Geoffrey Waldyn. Dated at Chellesfeld. I Otto de Grandison above written supplicate all my friends humbly and firmly adjure my executors that my testament of my lands and tenements in London made and sealed as quickly as possible after my decease as they can they shall prove and enrol at the Guildhall according to the use of the City which said lands and tenements I have given to the Warden and Canons of the Collegiate Church of Saint Mary de Otery in pure alms for ever under the conditions named in the said testament which said my testament and last will for firm and stable confirmation is in the custody of Sir Theobald de Mounteny. 
Proved 11 June 1359 at Maghfeld. He is styled ‘Nobilis vir Dominus Otto de Grandissono miles’. He was buried at Ottery St. Mary in a magnificent tomb – see Canon Dalton’s History of that church. (148a Islep).
