EDMUND STABLEGATE of the City of Canterbury, Friday next after the Feast of St. Katherine, virgin, 1362. To be buried in the nave of the church of Christ at Canterbury next the end towards the west. I leave for white and black cloth to be bought for clothing of 24 poor people the day of my burying £9. I leave 26s. 8d. for shoes to be bought for the same on my month’s day. To be distributed to the poor on my year’s day 60s. To the Rector of St. Elphege Canterbury for tithes forgotten 20s. To the work (fabrice) of the same church 10s. To the high altar of Northgate 13s. 4d. To the hospital of Estbregg 20s. To the high altar of Natyndon 10s. and of St. Martin’s near Canterbury 20s. I leave four wax candles to be burnt round my body the day of my burying each of 28 lb weight of which I wish one to remain before the image of the Blessed Mary in the church of St. Elphege the second before the image of Blessed Mary in the Crypt in Christ Church, the third before the Image of Blessed Mary of Quenyngate and the fourth before ‘mensura’ of the Blessed Mary in Christ Church Canterbury. 
To the Friars Preachers of Canterbury to celebrate for my soul, my father and mother and Isabell my wife and all faithful £20. To the Friars Minors £10, the Augustine Friars 40s. To four chaplains to celebrate in the church of St. Elphege 40 marcs and a chaplain to celebrate in the church of St. Andrew, Canterbury 10 marcs (all for souls as above). To each prisoner in the City of Canterbury 12d. To each chaplain dwelling in Canterbury so that he have my soul in his memory 12d. To each brother and sister in the hospital of Herbaldon, Northgate, Meynerds, St. Lawrence, St. James and Almonry of St. Augustine so that they have my soul in memory 12d. To each Canon of St.Gregory and each nun of St. Sepulchre 2s. To each monk of Christ Church 6s. 8d., and of St. Augustine 3s. 4d. To the Prior of Christ Church 40s. and the Abbot of St. Augustine 40s. 
I leave for a stone of to be placed over my body and the body of my wife if she wish and for writing on the stone in letters of laton 60s. I wish that a cow price 13s. 4d. be placed in custody of the churchwardens of the church of St. Elphege which was given by Matilda my mother to sustain a candle of 3 lb weight before the Cross before the chapel of Blessed Mary in the same church. I leave one price 13s. 4d. to sustain a candle of 3 lb before the image of St. John Baptist in St. Elphege Church. Another for a candle of 3 lb before the image of St. John "Ewanglie" in the same church on this condition that these cows or candles are not put to any other use. To each poor indigent person who cannot labour to live, in Canterbury 12d. To the high altar of Saints Cosme and Damian 20s. I leave for one man to go for me to St. James in Galisia 6 marcs. For a man to go for me to St. John’s Head at Amias and to the place where St. Maricius lies 40s. To each husbandman dwelling within the limits of Canterbury 12d. 
I leave to Agnes my wife £200. To Edward my son £40. To John my son £20. To Thomas my son £20. To Mary my daughter 100 marcs, to her marriage. If it fall out that my wife has a third part of my goods and my sons another third part as by law, then I wish that neither my wife nor sons have those goods above given them. I leave the vicar of Northgate to have my soul in memory 6s. 8d. To the work (fabrice) of the church of Christ of Canterbury £64. To John de Plukele 100s. To John Crokkere my servant a gown and 6s. 8d. To Walter my shepherd a gown and 13s. 4d. To Thomas Personn my servant at St. Laurence in Thanet and Thomas Henri each a gown. To John Leybrok my best robe and 20s. I leave the best stone which I have in the cemetery of Christ Church to lye on the body of Isabell my wife. I leave to the work of placing the stone over the body of the said Isabell 13s. 4d. I leave to Roger Dygge £20. I leave to William Toppeclyf £10. To each attendant (famulo) and servant (serviente) dwelling at Canterbury, Bilsyngton, Taneton, and Sturmouth 12d. Residue to my executors in celebrating masses and mending bad roads viz at Serreswall and Bilsynton and other alms. I leave Rose Godefray 13s. 4d. and Alice Heyward my maiden 13s. 4d. Executors: Roger Dygge and Wm. Topclyue. I leave Thomas de Shellesfeld 10s. Proved 17 April 1372. by executors named. (121b Wytlesey).
