JOHN WATFORD, rector of the church of Snergate, 4th day after the Feast of St. Denis 1368. To be buried in the porch of the church of Maghefelde. On the day of my burial five wax candles around my grave each of seven lbs of wax, and afterwards to burn before the image of B. Mary in the same church in honour of her Five Joys. To be distributed to the poor on my month’s day 20s. The high altar of Maghefeld 2s. To the Cross light there 2s. The light of B. Mary there 2s. To the new work (novo operi) there 20s. To the love chest (ciste caritatis) there 13s. 4d. To the Fraternity in the same church 6 mrcs so that the chaplain thereof celebrate for my soul as for the souls of deceased brethren of the Fraternity and yearly holds my anniversary when it shall happen. To Sir Walter Dautre a superaltar and one little ‘table’ and 20s. To Sir John Marsely a napkin, a ‘sauen per’, 2 short towels a brass dish and larger saucers. To Brother John Beauchamp to pray for me 40s. To Brother Henry Lokis 6s. 8d. To the Friars preachers of Wychelse to pray for me 13s. 4d. and Friars Minors there to celebrate 13s. 4d. To Augustine Friars ‘de la Rye’ 6s. 8d. To Sir John Whyteclyue Vicar of Magfeld 5 marcs to celebrate for me. Also to him twelve tin (stagneos) dishes, garnished 6 silver spoons etc. To each priest celebrating divine services in the church of Maghefeld half a marc. To the clerk of the said church 20d., the sacristan for ringing on the day of my burial and month’s day and making my grave 20d. To the church of Snergate 20s. To the light before the Cross in the said church 5s., to the light of B. Mary there 5s. 
To be distributed among the poor of the said parish 5 marcs. I leave to the said church of Snergate a vestment which lies in a certain chest in my chamber at Snergate a lined chasuble of which one part is ‘de colore de ynde’ and the other blue (cerulea) and white, with amice, stole maniple and one corporal. I leave to Henry, chaplain of Snergate 10s. To be distributed between the poor of Tangemere 13s. 4d. To sustain the light before the Cross and before the image of Blessed Mary in the church of Tangemere 6s. 8d. To the church of St. Mildred the Virgin Canterbury half a marc. To the poor of that parish 13s. 4d. To the church of All Saints of Hop(e) and to sustain the lights in the said church 13s. 4d. To the poor of that parish 6s. 8d. To sustain a chaplain for five years to celebrate for my and my parents souls in the church where I am buried £25. To William Oschirche of Couyntre my brother (sic) 5 marcs and if he die to his wife and children. To the work (opus) of the church of Watford and to the lights before the Cross and the image of B. Mary there 20s. and to the poor 20s. To Katherine Talmache anchoress of Watford half a mark. To George my clerk 20s. To Wm. Colbrok 2s., Thos. Danne 2s. Residue to celebrate for my soul. Executors: Sir Walter Dautry rector of of the church of Rotherfeld, Sir John Marcelly rector of the church of Iuecherch and Sir John Whytclyue vicar of the church of Maghefeld. 
Proved 8 September 1369 within Our Castle of Saltwode by Sir John Whiteclyue and Sir Walter Dautre rector of Rotherfield refusing ‘totaliter’. (107a Whytleseye).
