JOHN STENE, rector of the church of
Wicham (Wickhambreaux?)Canterbury Diocese, Sunday after the Feast of St.
Laurence the Martyr 1375. To be buried in the quire of the Collegiate Church of
Wyngham. For expenses about my body on the day of my burial 100s. To each vicar
of the said church of Wyngham 6s. 8d. To two clerks of the choir there 2s. 6d.
To Tetrigus Dale a silver bowl. To Hugh de Buckenhall £10 and my best bed and
best robe and a silver cup. To Sir Thomas de Bullesdon rector of the church of
Gatesden £10, a robe and 6 silver spoons.
To Sir John de Burton 10 mrcs and a piece of silver and 6 silver
spoons and a gowne furred ‘degrys’. To Sir Walter de Newenham a gowne furred
with Foynes and 40s. To Sir Adam Colyn chaplain 40s, a ‘gowne’ lined with
taffeta a piece of silver and 4 spoons. To Sir Thomas de Billesdon a maser with
one foot of silver. To Hugh de Buckenhall my breviary. To Sir John Burton a book
called ‘Pars occuli’. To Joan Ouereye 100s. I leave my best vestment to the
church of Wykham. Item One vestment to the Chapel of Blessed Mary of Wyngham. To
the work (operi) of the church of Wycham £10, a missal and a breviary.
To Juliana Scharp a ‘gourne’ lined with green. To John March
all the fur which he has in his hand except that Sir John de Burton shall have
the best. To William ate Wode a ‘goune’ and 20s. To William Cook 20s. and a
lined ‘goune’. To John Smyth 20s, Thomas Byle 6s. 8d, Stephen Symond 6s. 8d,
John Sehepperde 20s. and a bed, John son of john Swelyng 20s, William Danyel 6s.
8d, John Franciseo 6s. 8d, John Lote 6s. 8d, Simon Dagge 13s. 4d. To the House
of St. Laurence at Canterbury 20s, William Water, clerk 6s. 8d. Residue to Sir
Thomas Billesdon and Sir John Burton, chaplains to distribute for my soul, and I
constitute Sir Thomas Billesdon rector of the church of Gadenden and John Burton
chaplain, executors.
Witnesses: Sir dam Colyn, Sir Walter Newenham, chaplains, William
ate Woode, William Danyel, John Smyth.
Proved 6 October 1375. he is described as "rector of the church of Wycham,
Canterbury Diocese and Canon of the Collegiate church of Wyngham". [80b
